Overview:
This is a research fellow (post-doctoral level) position involving scientific investigation in an NIH-funded lab within the Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology that studies antibiotic resistance and vaccine development for pathogenic streptococci. Responsibilities:- Perform complex experiments in the fields of bacteriology and immunology. Includes work with live animals (mice, survival surgery).
- Provide scientific input to the design of experimental work and interpretation of data.
- Guide and supervise laboratory research assistants and summer students.
- Self-guidance to learn new methodologies and gain expertise in new scientific areas, as needed.
Abide by established lab standards for communication, documentation, organization, and teamwork.
- Other tasks as assigned.
- Minimum education requirement: Ph.D., M.D. or other doctorate in a scientific or medical discipline.
- Proficient in the use of Excel; ability to learn and use basic statistical and graphing software; ability to learn and use specialty software supporting major lab equipment and resulting data analysis.
Six years (or more) of wet lab bench work.
- A willingness to work with BSL-2 and ABSL-2 agents, human tissue samples, and mice (including survival surgery).
