The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking qualified candidates to fill 2 full-time Implementation Specialists/Trainers for CPI's new Crisis Systems Training Initiative. The Crisis Systems Training Initiative will provide training, support, education, and consultation to a diverse spectrum of crisis services across New York State. The Crisis Systems Training Initiative is looking for professionals to disseminate, implement, and sustain core competencies and best practices for crisis services providers. The Crisis Systems Training Initiative is located at the Center for Practice Innovations (CPI), in the New York State Psychiatric Institute.
Under the auspices of the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH), the Center for Practice Innovations (CPI) promotes the widespread use of evidence-based practices within behavioral health provider agencies throughout New York State. Considered an "Intermediary Organization" for implementation, CPI uses innovative approaches to build stakeholder collaborations, develop and maintain practitioners' expertise, and build agency infrastructures that support implementing and sustaining evidence-based practices. CPI also works with OMH to identify and involve program participants, families, providers, and scientific/academic organizations as partners in supporting the goals of OMH and CPI.
Interested applicants for these positions must be self-directed, team players committed to person-centered, trauma informed, and culturally responsive crisis services. They must value a data-driven approach to planning, delivering, and improving behavioral health related crisis services. This includes openness to learning about reflective practice, healing justice, and harm reduction approaches to providing behavioral health crisis services and developing a thorough understanding of equity driven crisis services and practices. The applicants must have experience with behavioral health issues and structures through work and/or personal experience. Further, we seek people with excellent interpersonal skills who can work with diverse populations at all levels of an organization. Familiarity with other community services and systems, services for the unhoused, harm reduction, peer support, and carceral systems is preferred.
The Implementation Specialists/Trainers report directly to the Director of the Crisis Systems Training Initiative. The successful candidates will also work closely with the NYS OMH. Additionally, the successful candidates will work with staff in different units (e.g., data analysis, online assistance unit, content/module development unit, continuing education unit) to support the work. This position will require occasional travel throughout NYC/NYS. Finally, as members of CPI, the implementation specialists/trainers will collaborate closely with other initiatives in the center to support the work.
This position is fully remotely. All applicants must live in the New York City region to be considered.

- Leading or co-leading specific training efforts to support core competencies and best practices in the field of behavioral health related crisis services.
- Leading or co-leading specific technical assistance efforts (e.g., learning communities, quality improvement projects, etc.) to support implementation of core competencies and best practices in the field of behavioral health related crisis services.
- Developing culturally congruent and equity driven training materials including online modules, webinars, and in-person training.
- Developing culturally congruent and equity driven implementation tools for behavioral health related crisis service providers, agencies, program leaders, supervisors, practitioners, and service users and their communities, including implementation guides and practice-specific workbooks.
- Supporting the director in conducting, gathering, and interpreting data from ongoing needs assessments.
- Staying abreast of Federal, State, and Local policies and programs for behavioral health related crisis services and systems.
- Staying abreast of the evidence-base around evidence-based practices, best practices, and emerging issues.
- Traveling throughout New York City and other regions of NY to provide in-person training and implementation support.
- Working with CPI's module development unit, subject matter experts, OMH, vendors, and others to insure that new online training modules are developed and made available to learners.
- Supporting the development of pre and post evaluations, surveys, and questionnaires for ongoing data collection and quality improvement.
- Supporting director in reviewing CPI's currently existing online training modules and recommending what is relevant for this Initiative.
- Participating in the design and creation of marketing materials for Initiative learning community meetings, webinars, training sessions, consultations, and support calls.
- Writing/editing newsletters, news briefs, and project summaries.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree and 6 (six) years of experience in behavioral health related crisis services or a related field;
- Or a master's degree and 4 (four) years of related experience;
- Or a Doctorate degree and 2 (two) years of related experience.
- Personal lived & living experience of mental health and/or substance recovery can substitute for education.
- At least 5 (five) years of experience creating training content, facilitating training/workshops, and providing technical assistance or consultation services in behavioral health.
- A valid NYS driver's license. This role requires travel to in-state and to on-site meetings as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 2 years of experience supporting dissemination and implementation in diverse communities.
- Mental health and/or substance use recovery lived or living experience.
- At least 2 years of experience with supervision providing coaching and feedback to help staff, coworkers, or interns develop skills.
- At least 2 years of experience with the New York State behavioral healthcare system or similar experience with a different large behavioral healthcare system.
- At least 2 years of experience using software and web-based applications, such as learning management systems, as well as Zoom, Word, Excel, SharePoint, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
