Job Description Summary

The Gerson Lab is seeking a Research Specialist B/C who will perform experiments to advance the study of adverse obstetrical/gynecological outcomes. This includes the study of the metabolome-microbiome interface in cervical remodeling and preterm birth using in vitro models. They will be required to manage and maintain multiple human cell lines. Thus, proficiency in in vitro cellular techniques such as sterile cell culture, cell line maintenance and complex functional cellular assays is required. Experience with down-stream molecular assays such as DNA, RNA and protein isolation, QPCR and ELISAs for various secretory or cell associated factors is necessary. Experience with human clinical samples is preferred. Knowledge of Flow Cytometery techniques would be a plus. The candidate must also exhibit excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. The ability to present data clearly is essential. The incumbent should be able to troubleshoot and complete experiments in a timely fashion. They should be proficient in using computer-based systems including but not limited to excel, word, graphpad and other databases. The ability to work independently and effectively communicate with others as part of team environment is necessary.

Research Specialist B:



+ Independently perform in vitro experiments, cellular functional assays, and RNA, DNA and protein-based assays


+ Maintain multiple immortalized and primary cell lines.


+ Manage and process clinical human biospecimens for research studies


+ Use computer- based systems including and not limited to Prism, Excel, Word, and databases







Research Specialist C:



+ Duties detailed above


+ Design, manage, and execute complex human/microbe co-culture in vitro models


+ Assist and train other lab members in laboratory protocols including complex in vitro models


+ Contribute to laboratory manager duties including lab maintenance/safety, ordering, communicating with collaborators, and abstract/manuscript preparation


+ Actively involved in experimental design, data analysis and writing of protocols and methodologies





Position contingent upon continued funding.




Qualifications





+ Research Specialist B – Bachelor’s degree and 1 to 3 years of experience


+ Research Specialist C – Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of experience





Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.
