The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Support Assistant to join the Center of Excellence for Cultural Competence (CECC) at the New York State Psychiatric Institute. This full-time position will provide support for evaluating suicide prevention programs in New York State that aim to provide culturally responsive community-based interventions for ethnoracially diverse and/or LGBTQIA+ youth and young adults. The CECC is seeking a Research Assistant to provide research and administrative support to the Center working under the direction of experienced faculty and staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct academic database searches, document reviews, and write background / literature reviews.
- Assist with developing and implementing evaluation designs and protocols for evaluating suicide prevention programs, including developing evaluation plans, interview guides, and surveys.
- Assist with the preparation and submissions of IRB protocols, annual reviews, and other quality assurance processes.
- Assist with participant recruitment and retention and work with diverse populations and community organizations to engage potential participants and maintain community partnerships.
- Schedule data collection activities and virtual or in-person meetings.
- Assist with travel and events logistics (e.g., making travel arrangements, scheduling meeting rooms, parking requests, arranging refreshments), preparing and processing participant compensation, staff reimbursements, pay orders, purchase requisitions, and ordering of supplies.
- Collect qualitative (e.g., conduct semi-structured interviews, focus groups) and quantitative data (e.g., administer surveys), and assist with processing of transcripts.
- Assist with developing and managing project databases (e.g., REDCap), perform data entry, and ensure adherence to protocols.
- Conduct analysis of qualitative (e.g., coding transcript, developing matrices) and quantitative (e.g., survey analysis) data, including transcript cleaning and using Atlas.ti and other software to facilitate analysis.
- Assist with tracking of project workplans (e.g., deliverables, activities, timelines).
- Support on-boarding, training, and coordination of volunteers.
- Draft reports, summaries, presentations, and other materials to communicate progress and findings to stakeholders and funders.
- Assist in responding to requests by the funder for information, reports, presentations, and recommendations.
- Attend trainings and project meetings to stay updated on policies, methodologies, and evaluation tools.
- Assist with other related duties as needed
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, public health, public administration, sociology, social work, anthropology, or related field required.
- At least 1 year of evaluation / research experience in mental health services or health equity.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in suicide prevention research/evaluation preferred.
- Experience preparing reports, research articles, and/or grant applications.
- Experience with engaging diverse communities in health equity research/evaluation.
- Experience with software such as EndNote, Zotero, REDCap, STATA, NVivo, ATLAS.Ti or other reference, participant tracking, quantitative, and qualitative data management software is preferred.
- Bi-lingual fluency in Spanish and English preferred.
