POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator/Department Director, perform laboratory procedures using approved procedures or special instructions. May draw blood or obtain other bodily fluids to collect specimens for data analyses. The Research Technician II will be required to sort, catalogue and maintain a specimen repository; may be required to analyze data using statistical analysis software and creating presentable graphs, tables, etc. of the data. Research Technician II to coordinate and implement subject recruitment, enrollment, sample collection, sample processing, follow-up, data collection, and study conduct. Responsibilities include identifying and screening research subjects, recruiting and maintaining follow-up of research subjects, tracking absent (lost to follow) subjects, explaining and acquiring signatures of subjects for informed consent documents, data collection, database entry (including, but not limited to, data entry, transcription of qualitative questionnaires and coding of qualitative data), and participation in study meetings and performing other administrative tasks in support of the clinical studies. Interacts with students, technicians, and Principal Investigators to plan, carry out, and maintain repository. Helps maintain equipment and reagent/material supplies.

5. Assists in the orientation and teaching of new trainees and technicians.
6. Prepares, submits, and presents written reports of scientific findings in scientific journals and at national meetings.
7. Maintains and adheres to established department policies, procedures and objectives, including the areas of quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.

- Assist in development of REDCap database
- Identifying and screening research subjects
- Recruiting and maintaining follow-up of research subjects (Explaining and acquiring signatures of subjects for informed consent documents)
- Tracking absent (lost to follow-up) subjects
- Data collection
- Database entry (including, but not limited to, data entry, transcription of qualitative questionnaires and coding of qualitative data)
- Participation in study meetings and performing other administrative tasks in support of the clinical studies.
2. Collection and processing of biospecimens:
- Phlebotomy (willing to be trained to do this) for collection of blood
- Observe self-collection of nasal swab for PCR testing
- Processing blood specimens for serum, plasma, or peripheral blood mononuclear cells.
- Document processing steps, including properly labeling all samples
3. Prepares and maintains laboratory instruments and equipment.
4. Maintains reagents, chemicals, and supplies inventory in accordance with department procedures.
5. Assists in the orientation and teaching of new trainees and technicians.
6. Prepares, submits, and presents written reports of scientific findings in scientific journals and at national meetings.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree required; degree in a biological/physical science preferred. Masters degree a plus.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in research or clinical program activities required.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Knowledge of medical terminology required.
- Experience with recruiting subjects, with an understanding of the ethical and technical conduct of research.
