Mission or Goal of Unit:
To improve the mental health of adults and children through education, clinical care, research, and public awareness. To lead Psychiatrys residency educational operations on behalf of VCU.
Chief Purpose of this position:
The Virginia Commonwealth University, Department of Psychiatry is seeking an academic psychiatry leader to serve as its Residency Program Director. As a Program Director, this leader will be looked upon to build and further develop the departments ACGME accredited residency program.
Position Responsibilities:
The majority of the Residency Program Director's effort will be allocated to overseeing, managing, and building Psychiatrys residency program. The Program Director will have the responsibility, authority, and accountability for: residency program administration and operations; teaching and scholarly activities; resident recruitment and selection, evaluation, promotion of residents, and disciplinary actions; supervision of residents; resident education in the context of patient care; and ensuring the program is compliant with all common and specialty ACGME program requirements.
The incumbent will also be expected to:
-Provide clinical care/services for patients, maintain timely electronic patient record documentation and submit clinical billing
-Teach and supervise residents, medical students, and other trainees
-Adhere to all VCUHS, MCVP, VCU School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, and other regulatory policies and procedures, conduct research as applicable
Required Qualifications:
-Clinical training in Psychiatry and MD/DO certification through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
-Virginia state medical licensure or eligibility
-Demonstrated academic and clinical leadership experience in a psychiatry residency program at a major academic healthcare organization to include residency program oversight, program development, managing staffing and recruitment, and a proven background in educational efforts, quality, safety, and resident engagement
-Academic credentials and experience to qualify for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor at VCU School of Medicine
-Candidates should demonstrate a strategic, energetic, and visionary skillset to foster innovation, growth, and novel program building across VCUs behavioral health educational opportunities and have experience fostering and leading medical education programming that supports, develops, and mentors the next generation of clinical and scientific experts
-Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment and a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
The candidates with outstanding academic accomplishments may qualify for an endowed Chair. Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.
