Mission or Goal ofUnit: 
To improve the mental health of adults and children through education, clinicalcare, research, and public awareness. To lead Psychiatry’s residencyeducational operations on behalf of VCU.

Chief Purpose of thisposition: 
The Virginia Commonwealth University, Department of Psychiatry is seeking anacademic psychiatry leader to serve as its Residency Program Director.  As a Program Director, this leader will belooked upon to build and further develop the department’s ACGME accreditedresidency program.  

PositionResponsibilities: 
The majority of the ResidencyProgram Director's effort will be allocated to overseeing, managing, andbuilding Psychiatry’s residency program.  The Program Director will have the responsibility, authority, andaccountability for:  residency program administration and operations;teaching and scholarly activities; resident recruitment and selection, evaluation,promotion of residents, and disciplinary actions; supervision of residents;resident education in the context of patient care; and ensuring the program iscompliant with all common and specialty ACGME program requirements.

The incumbent will also be expected to:

-Provide clinical care/servicesfor patients, maintain timely electronic patient record documentation andsubmit clinical billing
-Teach and supervise residents,medical students, and other trainees
-Adhere to all VCUHS, MCVP, VCUSchool of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, and other regulatory policies andprocedures, conduct research as applicable

RequiredQualifications: 

-Clinical training in Psychiatry and MD/DO certification through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology

-Virginia state medical licensure or eligibility

-Demonstrated academic and clinical leadership experience in a psychiatry residency program at a major academic healthcare organization to include residency program oversight, program development, managing staffing and recruitment, and a proven background in educational efforts, quality, safety, and resident engagement

-Academic credentials and experience to qualify for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor at VCU School of Medicine

-Candidates should demonstrate a strategic, energetic, and visionary skillset to foster innovation, growth, and novel program building across VCU’s behavioral health educational opportunities and have experience fostering and leading medical education programming that supports, develops, and mentors the next generation of clinical and scientific experts

-Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment and a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

The candidateswith outstanding academic accomplishments may qualify for an endowed Chair.  Appointment rank will be commensurate withacademic accomplishments and experience.
