SUMMARY: The Resident Assistant facilitates the social, academic, and personal adjustment of students to the residence hall and University. The RA develops a sense of community among residents as members of a floor, residents of a hall, and active participants in the residence life system. The RA serves as a positive role model to residents and peer staff members. The RA enforces the rules and policies of Housing Services and the University. The RA acts as a liaison between residents and the University administration. This contract ends December 2023.
The Resident Assistant must uphold the philosophy and mission of California Aeronautical University while instilling positive and progressive attitude in all employees.
JOB REQUIREMENTS include but are not limited to the following:
COMPLIANCE:
• Responsible for compliance with all local, state, accreditation and federal regulations
• Ensure completeness, accuracy, and security of campus files, documents and reports.
• Ensure and maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures
• Responsible for complete and accurate timekeeping.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Conduct all duties and responsibilities ethically and professionally;
• Staff administrative responsibilities including average of 12 active office hours per week and work an average 13 hours of “on call” time including informally in room, duty coverage, meetings and programming prep, chatting with residents, studying, etc.
• Required to attend weekly staff meetings/in-service training and regular one on one supervisory meetings
• Must complete all administrative paperwork and tasks on a regular basis.
• Encourage students’ personal, social and academic development, mediate conflicts, provide peer counseling
• Must meet programming requirements and keep bulletin boards updated.
• Must complete all safety and security duties including duty nights, distribution of keys and enforcement of university housing policies
• Must have communication methods through phone, email and mailbox located in housing office
• Must perform all emergency and disaster functions such as fire alarms, earthquakes and other disaster.
• Must adhere to and enforce all housing and campus policies as well as state laws.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Must be a California Aeronautical University student with a minimum of 12 completed units. One year of residential/group living experience preferred. Must possess and maintain a cumulative CAU GPA of 2.5 or greater and maintain a 2.5 term GPA during the entire employment period. Failure to meet these academic requirements may result immediate termination. Must maintain a full time course load.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to interact in a pleasant and professional manner with all types of people. Ability to work well under pressure, manage multiple priorities, set and meet deadlines and manage unexpected situations. Strong technology skills necessary.
TRAVEL DEMANDS:
Travel to various conferences and/or trainings may require overnight stays, and the number of nights is dictated by company and/or by the schedule of events. The employee must have the ability to travel to various locations as necessary. Must have vehicle suitable to safe and secure transportation.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business communications, financial reports, legal documents, and some government reports. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to students, top management and/or public groups.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to converse and listen. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands to finger a computer keyboard, and handle the telephone. The employee is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
