Responsibilities:
- Participate in the developing, maintaining and updating our written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Services Department.
- Direct the day-to-day functions of the nursing staff and manage staffing levels on each unit based on activity.
- Ensure that nursing services manual is followed by nursing service personnel, and that it reflects_ the day-to-day nursing care procedures used by this facility.
- Assist in developing methods for coordinating nursing services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the resident's total regimen of care.
- Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.
- Participate in survey inspection made by authorized government agencies.
- Admit, transfer, and discharge patients, as required.
- Complete accident/incident reports, as necessary.
- Respond to complaints and adjust grievances.
- Administer disciplinary policy fairly.
- Develop and maintain a good working rapport with all interdepartmental personnel to assure that nursing services and activities can be maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
- Assure that the wing/unit personnel, residents, and visitors follow the established policies and procedures at all times, including dress code.
Nursing Care Functions:
- Maintain an optimum level of nursing care to meet the needs of the patients on assigned wing/unit.
- Feed Residents, observe meals served and assure that patients receive diets as ordered by the physicians.
- Supervise meal periods in the dining areas.
- Answer all call-lights.
- Complete orientation of new employees including follow trainings.
- In emergency situation; notify physician, DON, Administrator, and patient's family. Arrange transportation and transfer papers for transfer of patients.
- Review nurse's notes to ensure that they are informative and descriptive of the nursing care being provided and that they reflect the patient's response to the care.
- Follow established standards of nursing practices and implement facility policies and procedures.
- Receive and provide report.
- Interpret existing policies and procedure to nursing assistants, restorative nursing assistants, patients, families, and physicians.
- Safety hazards and initiate corrective action immediately.
- Identify patient problems and emergency situation, and initiate immediate "lifesaving" measure, as appropriate.
- Follow, supervisor, and evaluate resident's rights.
- Report and document changes in patients' conditions to a physician.
- Assist with new admissions when necessary.
- Audit new admission charts.
- Follow admission procedure and communicate patient's admission to other departments, physicians, and ancillary service providers.
- Knowledgeably and competently perform basic nursing skills.
- Follow discharge/transfer procedures.
- Order medications, as necessary.
- Observe and enforce infection control procedures.
- Ensure personal alarms and safety equipment is in place, turned on, and in working condition.
- Participate in patient care.
- Other duties as instructed.
Staff Development:
- Attend and participated in scheduled training and educational classes.
- Attend and participate in scheduled orientation programs and activities.
