A Nurse Resident is a registered staff nurse who has worked less than one year and has been hired into the Residency Program. In addition to the duties and responsibilities described in the Job Summary, the Nurse Resident will participate in didactic training, leadership development, mentoring, and teamwork to support transition into practice.
Through direct mentorship and shadow experiences, as a Nurse Resident you will engage your pediatric curriculum and patient care orientation to help you develop into a pediatric nurse. We invite you to apply to our next cohort that begins on **Monday, February 3, 2025** !
The RN Residency Program is one year in length and focuses on preparing each new graduate for their role as a pediatric nurse.

**Program components:**
As a new graduate nurse at Seattle Children's, your transition into nursing practice will include:
+ Pediatric curriculum that includes various learning modalities
+ Patient care orientation with a nurse preceptor
+ Participation in an evidence-based project under the guidance of an experienced nurse leader
+ Evaluation of new graduate nurse competency
+ Ongoing support by nursing leaders
+ Mentorship by an experienced nurse

**The following departments are hiring:**
+ Cancer & Blood Disorders Center Inpatient
+ Medical R4
+ Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Unit (PBMU)
+ Surgical RC5/FB8
+ Surgical R6
+ Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU)
+ Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
+ Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
If a department is not listed above, they are not hiring for this cohort.
Our ICUs and ED look for significant experience in these areas. This could include paid work experience (CNA, Nurse Tech, etc.), clinical rotations or senior practicum experience. Consider selecting one of the other available departments if you don't have significant experience in these areas.
Please Note:
+ All departments will have 0.9 FTE available (36 hours/week).
+ Available shifts will vary depending on the needs of the department. We have the following shifts available: night shift and day/night rotating shifts. Most will be offered a night shift, and you won't have the ability to choose.
You will be able to select your top two departments in the application. You'll also be asked to explain why you are interested in those departments. As an integral member of the Health Care Team, the RN functions within the Scope of Practice as defined by the State, the ANA Scope and Standards for Pediatric Nursing Practice, and adheres to Seattle Children's policies/procedures and guidelines of care. Responsible for providing safe, family centered patient care. Using the Nursing Care Process, the RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care in a collaborative method with the patient and patient's family, significant others, and members of the health care team. May be required to provide supervision and delegation of tasks to Nurse Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Medical Assistants, and others as defined by the State Administrative Code. Assists in meeting Seattle Children's strategic goals by incorporating the initiatives to support the strategic plans into the daily work, i.e. Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI), ART, etc.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Seattle Children's will not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position.
**Required Credentials**
- Current Washington State RN License, or other current state license that the RN is required to work in.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers is required for all positions. Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) will be accepted in lieu of BLS for Healthcare Providers. ACLS will not be accepted as a substitute to the requirements listed above. Employees are responsible for any costs (including time away from work) associated with obtaining PALS or PEARS certification if it is not a requirement of the position.
- Nurses working in the following areas are required to successfully obtain PEARS within 6 months of employment, and subsequently maintain at all times:
- Acute Care Float
- Cancer Care Unit
- Medical Unit
- Psychiatric Unit
- Rehabilitation Unit
- Surgical Unit
- New graduate nurses in the following areas are required to successfully obtain PALS within 6 months of employment, and subsequently maintain at all times:
- Cardiac Intensive Care Unit
- Emergency Department
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
- Nurses working in the following areas are required to successfully obtain a Chemotherapy Biotherapy Provider Card from the Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON) within 6 months of employment, and subsequently maintain at all times:
- Acute Care Float
- Cancer Care Unit
- Hematology/Oncology
- Nurses working in the Psychiatric Unit and Child Psych Consultation are required to obtain Safety Care Certification (internal training) within 3 months of hire. The Safety Care training must be current at all times, i.e. annual training completed prior to the expiration date.
- As per the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), for nurses performing moderately complex point of care testing, a copy of a diploma or transcript of the highest level of academic achievement to be on record with Human Resources upon hire. For personnel trained outside of the U.S., records of diploma/transcript must provide documented equivalency evaluation by a foreign credentialing agency.
**Compensation**
$47.60 per hour
**Salary Information**
This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
