About the Job
A well recognized and highly respected residential home builder is looking to bring on a tenured Estimator. They offer industry leading compensation with an excellent benefit package. This Estimator position requires a minimum of 5+ years of experience. The estimator is a key team member. A thorough estimate is the foundation for a successful project. The estimator is responsible for assembling complete and contractible estimates from respective subcontractors. The estimator also has the responsibility of engaging with the project managers throughout the duration of the construction process.
Residential Estimator Core Responsibilities
- Review initial plans, specifications, schedule lists, and job opportunities with project managers
- Prepares construction budget by studying home plans; updating specifications; identifying and projecting costs for each elevation
- Evaluates offers to purchase by costing changes, additions, and site requirements
- Obtains bids from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials; identifying qualified subcontractors; negotiating price
- Maintains cost keys and price masters by updating information
- Calculate take-offs when required with estimating software and scale methods
- Maintain job pipeline reports and estimating tracker
- Maintains quality service by following organizational standards
- Create, submit, and track RFI’s as needed during bid/estimating process
- Work directly with architects, engineers, and designers when needed in creating value engineering, alternates, and changes in scope
Residential Estimator Skills and Qualifications
- 5+ years of Estimating Experience within either residential or multifamily construction
- Proficient at Excel, Word, Outlook, MS Project, and various estimating software
- College Degree Preferred
- Great problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills
- General knowledge of means and methods of residential building in California
- Well versed in reading plans and understanding both architectural and structural details
