About New Life Residential Treatment Center
Many of the girls arrive at New Life after experiencing severe abuse or neglect. These courageous young women are between the ages of 11-17, and they begin to grow and heal through in-depth clinical therapy,
What You'll Do
The Residential Medical Aide provides direct nursing care to youth such as administering and ordering medication, conducting medical assessments and diagnostic testing, and medical treatment as prescribed by a licensed medical or clinical professional in accordance to Agency policies, licensing and funding standards, and other federal, state, and local regulatory.

Responsibilities

Work Standards
- Provide youth with routine health screenings and perform basic health assessment; assess each youth’s unique medical needs and ensure they are properly met in a timely manner; report routine medical needs to the medical, clinical, case management and direct care staff per Agency policy and licensing standards
- Administer medication and treatment to youth as prescribed or as needed in accordance with licensing standards and nursing practices; coordinate medical appointments and follow through on medications and treatment as prescribed; coordinate and oversee the prescribed nutritional needs and diet and fluid intake for youth as prescribed
- Monitor youth response to treatment plans and identify adverse medication interactions and notify the Residential Nurse, Clinical Director and other clinical and medical staff as deemed appropriate
- Keep medication files and maintain inventory of all prescribed medications; order medication and supplies as required and as needed
- Respond to all crisis situations in a timely manner; ensure all Program departments are properly notified in a timely manner; report incidents according to licensing standards
- Support and enforce infection-control policies and procedures
- Other duties and projects as assigned
Communication
- Create, update, and maintain accurate and up-to-date youth records with information pertaining to nursing care, child’s medical history, treatment plans, and observations; chart all pertinent information in the youth’s chart records in accordance with Agency policy and licensing standards
- Keep medication files and maintain inventory of all prescribed medications; order medication and supplies as required and as needed
- Work closely with clinical and program team to admit, transfer, and discharge youth as directed
- Use assessment information and youth care during the shift to develop a care plan that accurately communicates the required and needed information for incoming shift to care for the youth properly and adequately
- Complete paperwork as relates to treatment plans, placement and discharge summaries, and administration of medication, auditing of MARs and Medical Records

Teamwork
- Assist with the assessment, development, and evaluation of youth service plan based on their needs and medical condition
- Keep medication files and maintain inventory of all prescribed medications; order medication and supplies as required and as needed
- Provide on-call services when needed for emergency situations
- Monitor youth response to treatment plans and identify adverse medication interactions and notify Clinical Director and other clinical and medical staff as deemed appropriate
- Seek guidance when encountering nursing procedures and responsibilities that have not been mastered
- Assist with the safe and physical evacuation of youth during an emergency or natural disaster
- Respond to all crisis situations in a timely manner; ensure all Program departments are properly notified in a timely manner; report incidents according to licensing standards
- Role includes on-call responsibilities as schedule and as medical emergencies/needs may arise; consultation can be provided remotely or on-site based on need
- Work closely with the Clinical Director, Program Director, and staff to ensure youth are receiving the highest quality of care and the program is operating efficiently and effectively and is meeting the goals and objectives of the program and the needs of the youth

Building Relationships
- Call, schedule, and coordinate youth external/internal appointments with all involved parties including notifying Case Manager, Residential Nurse, Clinical Director, and Dorm Supervisor
- May be required to complete driving duties as driver and/or accompanying during transport. Subject to being designated as an authorized driver
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with management, staff, youth, families and sponsors, community partners and professional service providers
- Work as team player and exhibit professional behavior with both internal and external clients that reflects positively on the Agency and is consistent with Agency policies and practices
- Actively participate in exhibiting cultural awareness and sensitivity when interacting with children, parent(s)/guardian(s), staff, and the community
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- 1-year relevant experience in a medical setting
- Must have valid TX driver license and auto insurance to be designated as an authorized driver
- Ability to maintain a professional approach and build a rapport and trust with youth and their families
- Consistently follows established standards, policies, and procedures in providing nursing care
- Strong writing skills with the ability to document and maintain accurate files/records
- Strong customer service, interpersonal, and people skills; ability to work and interact with diverse groups of people and handle stressful and emotional situations
- Strong relationship management skills with the ability to work with a team in a collaborative manner
- Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to pay very close attention to details and meet deadlines
- Experience passing medication
- Ability to resolve conflict and respond to youth issues with professionalism, tact, and empathy
- Proficient in use of personal computers, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and information systems used to document and record youth information
Preferred Qualifications
- Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
- Experience working in pediatrics and with adolescents, highly preferred

Physical Demands & Work Conditions
- This position will require continuous viewing of a computer screen, sitting and standing for long periods of time and frequent walking.
- Position works in a child facility and has constant exposure to children
- Lift, push, pull, move up to 50 lbs.
