Summary:
The Workforce Group (WFG) is seeking Residential Inspectors responsible for inspecting one and two-family residential properties to ensure compliance with state building codes, safety regulations, and construction standards. This role involves conducting detailed inspections, managing compliance requirements, and effectively communicating findings with property owners and contractors. The Inspector is expected to uphold high standards of quality in inspection procedures and documentation, assist with any necessary corrections or improvements to meet code requirements, and support the overall mission of safe and compliant residential construction.
Location: Various field locations across Florida
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform thorough inspections of one and two-family dwelling properties to assess and ensure compliance with relevant building codes and safety regulations.
- Evaluate structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within the property to confirm adherence to quality and safety standards.
- Provide clear, detailed documentation and reporting of inspection findings, highlighting any code violations or compliance concerns.
- Communicate effectively with property owners, contractors, and other stakeholders regarding inspection results and necessary corrective actions.
- Ensure accurate and organized maintenance of inspection records, reports, and documentation.
- Serve as a knowledgeable point of contact for code-related questions and regulatory guidance, offering support for building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical inquiries.
- Monitor and maintain compliance with all documentation standards, regulatory codes, and applicable state and local laws.
- Conduct periodic reviews and audits of inspection documentation to ensure timely and accurate data entry and reporting.
- Attend team meetings and provide updates on inspection progress, regulatory changes, and area-specific issues affecting residential properties.
- Support ongoing training initiatives for code updates, inspection techniques, and best practices within the field.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Required Certification: Must meet one of the following eligibility criteria: Five years of supervisory experience as a certified contractor overseeing building, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing personnel on residential projects. Five years of experience as a job superintendent or project manager with supervisory control over residential building and trade personnel. Hands-on experience totaling five years, including at least two years in electrical, two years in building, and one year in either mechanical or plumbing. Standard certification as an inspector per Section 468.603(6), F.S., plus six months of hands-on experience in areas where certification is not held. Postsecondary education and experience in construction totaling four years, including at least one year in building code inspection or plans review. Technical education and construction experience totaling four years, including at least one year in building code inspection or plans review. Completion of a 500-hour inspector training program and standard certification as an inspector per Section 468.603(6), F.S.
- Strong knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and residential construction standards.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills for interacting with homeowners, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel) and inspection-related software.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple inspections in a field-based setting.
- Detail-oriented approach to identifying compliance issues and completing accurate reports.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to multiple inspection sites as required.
