Experience in teaching and training staff, physicians, co-workers, residents and patients. Proficient in creating, modifying and maintaining skills check-offs, in-servicing and competency check-offs with return demonstrations for staff members. Must possess knowledge in creating, modifying and maintaining policies and procedures. Willingness to teach skills to the public when necessary. Requires dependable transportation with willingness to travel and transport residents as necessary. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Active member and involvement in state societies for respiratory care. Must be willing to assist with Public Relations and attend nursing home committees. Motivated and energetic as well as professional demeanor with outstanding patient assessment skills. Must be able to work independently and have exceptional time management skills. Must be able to work under pressure. Provide efficient life-saving therapies by responding to code alerts within the facility. Maintains safe operation of respiratory care services equipment by adhering to safety regulations; evaluating new equipment and techniques; maintaining inventory of equipment; making adjustments to equipment; troubleshooting malfunctions and arranging for repairs. Must contribute information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, resolving problems and aid in identifying system improvements. Readiness to keep members of the health care team apprised of resident’s conditions by presenting respiratory treatment plans to physicians and management; gaining approval; rendering treatments as well as evaluating results. Knowledge in referral process to gain new residents into skilled nursing facilities. Self-motivated and driven with eagerness to maintain knowledge of up-to-date, current respiratory modalities to ensure our residents have decreased hospital stays. Must possess all skills necessary to ensure not only resident satisfaction but create a positive influence for the skilled nursing facility as well as community. Perform other job duties as assigned. Performance Expectations: ï‚· Display adaptability. ï‚· Appreciate and respect resident/family confidentiality. ï‚· Work as a liaison between residents, families and physicians to ensure excellent communication. ï‚· Ensure all staff is competent in maintaining artificial airway. ï‚· Administer aerosolized respiratory medications as ordered. ï‚· Accomplish or document all ordered respiratory treatments, therapies, diagnostic tests and procedures in accordance with physician orders, policies and procedures. ï‚· Effectively demonstrate and maintain clear patient airways relative to patient’s condition. ï‚· Manages proper oxygen titration levels to maintain residents’ oxygen saturation. ï‚· Administer and manage proper respiratory equipment. ï‚· Perform respiratory assessment and help to develop a care plan with necessary personnel. ï‚· Evaluate resident care outcomes. ï‚· Perform basic and specialized clinical and technical respiratory procedures. ï‚· Schedule staffing to meet resident needs and caseload ï‚· Manage all respiratory supply stock Qualifications: Education/Skills High School Diploma or GED required. Graduate from a respiratory care educational program supported by CoARC or equal accreditation, with at least 62 semester hours of college credit with an Associates of Science in Respiratory Care. Work Experience: At least 4 years (regular 20 hours or more per week) of recent experience as a Respiratory Therapist-Preferred. Minimum of 2 years critical care experience-Preferred. At least 2 years of experience in a long term care setting as a Respiratory Therapist. Minimum 1 year in supervisory role, with experience in scheduling, ordering equipment and maintaining supplies in respiratory department as well as experience with new employee interview process and training-Preferred Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE ï‚· Current Mississippi Certification in Respiratory Therapy Additional Certification/Licensure - obtained based on the required timeframe below ï‚· Basic Life Support Within 30 Days of Employment Required Mental Demands: Ability to assimilate, within a reasonable amount of time, large amounts of complex, technical and detailed information from a variety of sources. Ability to identify cause-effect relationship in order to make judgments and set priorities in clinical situations. Recognize physiological changes in patient/resident status and act appropriately. Ability to prioritize tasks, integrate information and make decisions promptly and professionally. Function effectively during periods of high stress. Ability to cope with heavy workload schedule and patient/resident demands
