About the Job
The Respiratory Services department is comprised of Adult, Pediatric and Diagnostic respiratory therapists additionally trained in their area of expertise. RT's main objectives include the assessment, treatment, and management of complex medical conditions, providing diagnostic evaluations, education, and care of patients with deficiencies/abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system. We serve and support all areas of inpatient care from ED/trauma to Labor and Delivery/neonatal ICU. We provide care and services to the most vulnerable patients in the State of Oregon and beyond working closely with interdisciplinary specialists and providers to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.
Function/Duties of Position:- Direct Supervision
- Functions as advisor to direct reports. Analyzes and resolves problems, interprets policies (i.e., fiscal management, HR, contracts) and demonstrates solid knowledge of processes and protocols for budgets, funds, or HR management. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Supervises staff to ensure accountability and stewardship of department resources (operation, financial and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives.
- Human Resources Management
- Responsible for the performance management of all direct reports, within departmental guidelines. Mentors, coaches, and develops staff in achieving operational goals and provides opportunities for staff development and advancement. Approves and audits employee leave, and monitors timekeeping and attendance.
- Department Operations
- Promotes a customer-focused service model. Monitors patient satisfaction and/or performance indicators to ensure department is meeting its goals. Oversees daily flow of work, scheduling and assigning work as needed. Assists manager with departmental scheduling and vacation calls as needed. Works closely with key partners to improve efficiencies within the department. Serves as a model for customer service and assists frontline staff when necessary. Recommends and implements operational and facility changes as needed.
- Associate Degree in Respiratory Care.
- 2 years of previous Respiratory Care lead/charge or supervisor experience.
Skilled in organizational behavior
Previous demonstration of:
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively.
- Ability to work as a team member in an interdisciplinary setting.
- Effective communication in verbal, written, and electronic media.
- Computer and word processing skills.
Valid Oregon Respiratory Therapist License
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Adult supervisor requires Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association.
- Pediatric supervisor requires Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by the American Heart Association AND Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification issued by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
- Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care, Healthcare Administration, or core science (chemistry, biology, etc.)
Knowledge of adult learning theories.
Strong communication skills. Demonstrated ability to build teams and integrate existing teams.
Database queries and reporting, data analysis, Lean methodologies.
Adult Critical Care Specialty (ACCS) credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
Neonatal/Pediatric Specialty (NPS) credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
