About the Job
- POSITION STANDARDS
- The Respiratory Care Practitioner, at a minimum, will hold a certificate demonstrating the successful completion of an accredited AMA educational program leading to an associate degree in science with specialty in Respiratory Therapy, must hold a current State of NH Respiratory Care Practitioner license.
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills required. Maintain positive communication and relationships with all levels of management, employees as well as individuals outside of the organization. Must have the ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues, by using judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulation or government law. Must be able to follow safety precautions. Strict adherence to confidentiality is essential.
Current BCLS, ACLS and PALS certification required at hire.
- Must be able to work independently and think critically in high stress situations
- Must be able to obtain/interpret an ABG as outlined by the AARC
- Must be able to manage both invasive as well as non-invasive ventilated patients

- PART TWO: FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
Position Objective
- A Respiratory Care Practitioner works under the general supervision of the Medical Director (MD, PhD, DO) or designee and the direct supervision of the Department Manager or designee. The standard duties of this position are to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of patients referred to the Cardiopulmonary Services Department for services outlined and described in the department policies and procedures manual.
Performance Expectation
- Gather and Analyze Patient Information
- Collect, analyze and integrate patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs (Physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing /service procedure, pertinent medical/social history), and to determine final testing/service parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and department protocols.
- Complete and verify documentation.
- Explain pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to the patient.
- Testing Preparation Procedures
- Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments, if necessary.
Cardiopulmonary Procedures
- Provide and follow procedural protocols as outlined in the Cardiopulmonary Department Procedure Manual.
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Oversees and performs difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions.
- Document routine observations, including clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events in providing this care/service utilizing standard documentation methods.
Service Management and Professional Issues
- Comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.
- Perform routine and complex equipment care maintenance
- Evaluate Cardiopulmonary related equipment and inventory
- Demonstrate the ability to analyze complex situations and apply policy.
- Provide inservice education to other hospital personnel regarding respiratory and cardiopulmonary skills as needed.
- Participates in quality management program of Cardiopulmonary department.
