The Respiratory Therapist (RT) evaluates, treats, and cares for patients with breathing or other cardiopulmonary disorders. The RT provides bedside respiratory care to patients as assigned by physician's written order or standing order in connection with therapist-driven protocols. The RT develops and carries out care plans as an expert member of a multidisciplinary care team. Critical thinking that supports independence as well as teamwork is a must. The RT scope of practice includes but is not limited to oxygen therapy, hyperinflation therapy, pulmonary function testing, bronchopulmonary hygiene, bronchoscopy, and ventilator management.
The person in this position works under general supervision, is responsible for various shifts, may be subject to over 40 hours per week and/or callback as required, and may also be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.
Qualifications:
- Associates degree in Respiratory Therapy
- Clinical rotations from an accredited respiratory practitioner program
- Current Florida Registered Respiratory License
- BLS through American Heart Association
- NRP required within six (6) months of hire/transfer
- Must pass Level 2 background screening
- Demonstrated current theoretic and clinical expertise with respect to community Respiratory Therapy Practices and education
- Knowledge of methods of oxygen delivery and side effects
