Registered Respiratory Therapist
Part Time
Tues/Thurs 8am-4:30pm

Under the direct supervision of the inpatient Care and Cardiopulmonary Services Director coordinates the day to day operational aspects of the Cardiopulmonary services department operations and ensure any operational issues are identified, tracked, reported on, resolved and/or escalated in a timely manner.
Uses independent judgement in crisis situations and takes appropriate actions.
Responsibilities:Clinical Excellence/Patient Care
- Providesrespiratory care activities within their scope of service.
- Follows Respiratory Care policies to guide patient Care.
- Administers therapy modalities to pediatric, adolescent, adult patients which include, but are not limited to: handheld nebulizer, metered dose inhaler, and chest physiotherapy.
- Performs diagnostic testing procedure as requested by Lead Therapist.
- Demonstrates the ability to assist the cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation staff in the rehabilitation sessions.
- Administers oxygen therapy to all age groups of patients.
- Performs ventilator therapy on adult, pediatric and infants. This includes airway management, clinical assessments and all modes of ventilation included but not limited to controlled mechanical ventilation, assist-control ventilation, synchronous intermittent mandatory ventilation, flow-by, pressure support ventilation, positive end expiratory pressure, continuous positive airway pressure, bi-level positive airway pressure and pressure control ventilation.
- Performs physiological monitoring which includes, but is not limited to, arterial blood sampling, bedside spirometry, ECG, Holter monitor application, and pulse oximetry.
- Monitors patient’s physiological response to therapy such as vital signs and arterial blood gases.
- Processes, inspects and tests respiratory care equipment to ensure it is cleaned, packaged and functioning safely and efficiently. Preforms preventive maintenance and repairs when needed. and
- Communicates with providers/co-workers as appropriate about changes to patient’s cardiopulmonary condition.
- Ability to perform respiratory assessments on all patients and reassessments per policy.
- Interacts professionally with all patients and family members
- Knowledge of medications, ability to perform services to level of licensure.
- Maintains cooperative working relationship with all medical staff members
- Ability to communicate both verbally and non-verbally in a professional manner.
Education:
Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care School, with either a Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapy degree.
License(s)/Certification(s):
- Current State of Iowa Respiratory Care Practitioner License
- Registry credential by the National Board of Respiratory Care
- BCLS
- ACLS
- PALS
- NRP
