Duties:
- The Respiratory Care Practitioner has the responsibility, accountability, and the authority to deliver safe, effective, quality respiratory care according to the philosophy and goals/objectives, policies, procedures, guidelines, and objectives of Respiratory Care Services.
- The RCP, utilizing the Relationship Based Care Model and the four C’s of the Client Way assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care for all patients assigned to his/her care.
- The RCP makes determinations regarding the progress of the patient toward goals and utilizes a therapeutic professional relationship with the patient/family and interdisciplinary team to facilitate the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of health.
- Care is provided according to the specific physiologic, developmental, and psychosocial needs of the patient.
- Supports the mission, vision, values, and expectations of excellence of the organization.

- Direct Patient Care: The RCP shall be considered to be competent when he/she consistently demonstrates the ability to transfer scientific knowledge from social, biological and physical sciences in applying the nursing process, as follows: Provides care that is consistent with the interdisciplinary plan of care and grounded in the principles of Relationship Based Care.
- Explains the respiratory treatment to the patient and family and educates them on how to care for the respiratory needs of the patient.
- Demonstrates a current working knowledge and safe use of equipment, instrumentation, and medications.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of the respiratory care treatments and modalities through observation of the patient’s physical condition and behavior, signs and symptoms of illness and reactions to treatment and through communication with the patient and the health team members, and modifies the plan as needed.
- Acts as the patient advocate as circumstances require by initiating action to improve health care or to change decision or activities that are aProductst the wishes of the patient by giving the patient the opportunity to make informed decisions about health care before it is provided.
- Provides culturally competent, age-appropriate, ethical care within legal standards of practice.
- Acts as a liaison in coordinating patient care activities with nurses, physician, and allied health professionals.
- Utilizes effective verbal, written and electronic communication skills to facilitate safe patient hand-offs.
- Documents patient care per hospital policies. Utilizes manual and automated information systems to improve efficiency and effect productivity.
Skills:
- 6 months post graduate acute care. Pediatric/neonatal experience preferred.
