Responsibilities
The Respiratory Therapy Apprentice uses their knowledge and skills to perform simple direct patient care activities and complex indirect patient care activities that support the Respiratory Therapists. The employee presents a pleasing and helpful manner to the patient, physicians, visitors, members of the department, and all other medical personnel. They will also be responsible for supporting and contributing to departmental and hospital objectives by functioning as a technician in non-critical aspects of respiratory care. The RT apprentice complies with local, state, and federal rules and regulations, and the requirements of accrediting bodies.
Under the direct supervision of a respiratory therapist, this position provides support to the Respiratory Therapy department and :
- Disassembles, cleans, disinfects, stores, re-assembles and transports Respiratory Therapy equipment
- Makes minor repairs to Respiratory Therapy equipment, as needed
- Assists in maintaining departmental inventories
- Performs graphic cardiology procedures (EKG, placing Holter monitor)

Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or GED (required)
- Accepted into a Respiratory Therapy Program
Experience:
- Patient care experience (preferred)
Certification:
BLS (Required)
