Job DescriptionAs an employee of DCS, you will need to have an eye for detail, all while using your skills and expertise to uphold our company’s morals and principles. The perfect applicant is a highly motivated Rest Area Groundskeeper that will perform maintenance duties, lawn duties, and the planting of flowers and shrubbery for rest areas. This position is under the direct supervision of the Facilities Manager.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
- Demonstrate a positive safety culture by performing responsibilities in full compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
- Perform assigned ground and maintenance tasks in an organized and timely manner.
- Police the grounds daily; clean and maintain public areas.
- Performs and oversees lawn maintenance using tractors, zero turn mowers, edgers, blowers or any other equipment necessary to always keep all lawn areas neat and presentable.
- Pressure washing, exterior painting and maintenance of community public areas.
- Care and maintenance of all plantings, flowers and trees including replants when needed.
- Planting, care, and maintenance of herbicide-free Butterfly gardens.
- Maintain striping and paint in parking lot and roadway of rest areas as defined by contract.
- Performs minor repairs on grounds, facilities and equipment when needed.
- Meet minimum standard inspection goals for rest areas and grounds as defined by contract.
- Participate in an ongoing improvement plan for rest areas.
- Works with minimal supervision and exercises independent judgment.
- Displays friendly, helpful, and pleasant demeanor with travelling public.
- Follows safety procedures, policies, and guidelines of FDOT.
- Public safety and convenience are to be always considered.
- Reports all incidents of vandalism, theft, accidents, and extended stay vehicles etc. (see emergency call out list).
- Responsible for reporting and documenting any suspicious activity, needs and concerns.
- Keeps the storage area clean, neat, and secure.
- Removes all trash, paper, and other debris from grounds and parking lots.
- Keeps all walkways and necessary pathways clean and free of debris.
- Uses hand and power tools and performs required maintenance.
- Reports any needed necessary repairs.
- Perform all duties in line with Company policies and procedures as amended from time to time.
- Maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, customers, subcontractors, security, and suppliers.
- Promote a strong customer service culture among project team members.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Experience and Education:
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Must have 1 year of related groundskeeping, maintenance, and related equipment experience.
- Must be able to meet with the crew at 5AM every morning.
- Must have tractor and zero turn tractor experience.
- Must have the ability to work in various outdoor conditions.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with at least 3 years of clean driving.
- Must have own reliable transportation.
- Must be able to call, text, or email communications to managers.
- Must be self-motivated, able to work independently, and be trustworthy.
- Must be able to comply with the company drug and alcohol policy.
- Advanced mot certified preferred.
- First aid and CPR certified preferred.
