The Office of Network Support (ONS) provides administrative support, strategic direction, and leadership development to the schools within each network while also driving critical supports that help boost student learning.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Schools Officer, the Retiree School Support Assistant will collaborate with the ONS School Support Team to help identify targeted instructional support for underperforming schools, assist in strategic thinking and planning, and help school leaders align actions to their continuous improvement work plans.
This is a part-time/temporary position that will be compensated for time worked on an hourly basis. The work schedule for this role will consist of an estimated 40 hours per week for an anticipated period of 8 months beginning November 1, 2023 and ending June 30, 2024. Due to the part-time/temporary nature of this work, this is not a benefit-eligible position.
The Retiree School Support Assistant will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:
Coach teachers, instructional coaches, and school leaders toward excellence.
Build capacity of content teacher teams, and support professional communities for teachers and school leaders.
Create targeted professional development and instructional planning.
Align/Oversee activities toward continuous improvement.
In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Retiree School Support Assistant must possess the following qualifications:
Education Required:
Bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited college or university
Master’s degree preferred
Experience Required:
Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a teacher
Minimum of three (3) years of experience as an instructional coach
Experience with Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) and progress monitoring preferred
Experience with instructional planning based on qualitative and quantitative data preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Expertise in teacher development
Strong communication skills (speaking - including presentations - listening, and writing)
Instructional expertise, integrity, honesty, credibility, and the courage to make difficult yet necessary decisions
Effective strategic planning capabilities
Ability to build collaborative relationships with teachers and school leaders to garner support and buy-in for instructional planning
Ability to define problems, analyze data, and outline valid conclusions and action steps
Ability to use multiple data sources to set measurable goals
Working knowledge of MTSS and progress monitoring
Ability to implement continuous improvement cycles for learning
Understanding of the components of high-quality curriculum
Conditions of Employment
As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:
Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency -Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
- Be Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19 -Unless approved for a medical or religious exemption, all employees are required to be up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations, including boosters, and to submit proof of vaccination to the district within 30 days of hire. “Up-to-date” on vaccination is defined as being at least two weeks past all primary vaccine doses and any applicable boosters.
