SUMMARY:
The person in this position follows all processes and procedures to ensure that accurate and timely invoicing is accomplished by specified deadlines. He or she researches, analyzes, and uses facts as the basis for making decisions. In addition, he or she must work closely with regional staff, operations, and crew to ensure that the most accurate data is being used for generating revenue.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conduct audits of waybills to ensure accurate capture of revenue and expenses associated with the maneuvers of the operations of the railroad; collaborate with several management teams to minimize car-hire expenses
• Coordinate with various departments to ensure accurate data is captured within our systems to maximize revenue and minimize expense exposure
• Identify and research cars that are sitting idle on railroad property to ensure revenue is captured and car-hire expenses are reduced
• Research incomplete waybills and ensure they are properly updated and completed so proper revenue can be applied
• Be responsible for accurate and timely billing of railroad receivables, including freight, nonfreight, accessorial, and payable accruals
• Be responsible for accurate and timely billing, resolution, and collection of all Class 1 partner invoices
• Be responsible for accurate and timely billing and resolution of accessorial customer charges
• Prepare and process various railroad charges according to published tariffs and contracts on an as-needed basis
• Be responsible for researching and resolving discrepancies/disputes on all TMS-generated invoices
• Process duplicate, overpayment, and short pays associated with invoices; validate payment usage and research unidentified cash receipts
• Communicate with customers, marketing, operations, and other departments as needed
• Assist collection specialists with outstanding customer balances and accounts, which can include calling or e-mailing
• Act as the central point of contact for all roads in area of responsibility
• Assist with other projects and perform other duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS AND/AND EXPERIENCE:
• Prior experience in the accounting or railroad field
• Strong organizational skills; attention to detail; ability to be a self-starter
• Good analytical skills and ability to perform research
• Ability to manage multiple tasks under restricted time limits
• Good skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook)
• Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) accounting system a plus
• Knowledge of RMI a plus
• Basic knowledge of accounting rules and terminology a plus
• Willingness to travel occasionally (up to 20 percent)
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR CREDENTIALS:
• Some college and relevant work experience and/or training preferred
