The Position
Job Title: Rheumatologist
Reports to: Medical Director / or Designee
Work Schedule: Normal business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; Monday – Friday (Work schedule negotiable). Other hours and / or days as needed for program activities.
Overview of the Position:
Under the direct supervision of the Medical Director, the rheumatologist will be responsible for the diagnoses and treats arthritis and other immune-related diseases and conditions.
Education and Experience:
- Medical Degrees appropriate to their specialty from an accredited medical college or university
- Completion of an approved Residency Program
- Must be Board Eligible or Board Certified
Required Skills / Abilities:
- Ability to work cooperatively with patients, health care staff members and administration in the performance of assigned duties
- Ability to exchange information on factual matters communicate in a variety of manners with patients, staff, and explain policies of the Centers.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
Essential Job Functions: These functions will be performed ……. and will be the responsibility of the incumbent working with the provider, clinical staff and non-clinical staff to ensure excellence in service for the patient.
- Prescribing medications to treat conditions such as arthritis or Lupus
- Conducting physical examinations, including taking x-rays and MRIs as needed to diagnose conditions
- Performing biopsies to remove tissue samples for analysis by a pathologist or other specialist
- Providing consultations to other physicians regarding difficult cases that they are unable to diagnose or treat
- Diagnosing patients with rheumatic diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjogren’s syndrome, scleroderma, and osteoarthritis
- Performing clinical research to advance the understanding of rheumatic diseases
- Referring patients to other specialists when appropriate to help them manage their conditions
- Prescribing medications to treat rheumatic diseases and other conditions that cause inflammation in the body
- Teaching patients how to manage their condition, work with their physician on a treatment plan, and prevent flare-ups of their disease from occurring
- Perform other duties as assigned
