The Risk Management staff complies with risk management related standards by Joint Commission and other accrediting and regulatory agencies with the objective of enhancing patient safety, quality care, and minimizing loss to protect the assets of the facility. The Risk Management staff manages and analyzes risk management data, conducts risk management educational programs, and interfaces with defense legal counsel, helping to mitigate and prevent issues of risk management within the Center. This role actively participates in policymaking surrounding risk management to improve patient and provider safety and impact on quality of care.
This is a part-time position, 24 hours a week. RN preferred but not required.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists physicians/departments in determining appropriateness of new procedures and use of off label medications; assists in determining how success will be measured.
- Active participant in daily safety huddle, ensuring all daily incidents have been reported and communicate with management as needed on risk related issues discussed in huddle that need immediate attention.
- Active participant on committees related to risk including but not limited to Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Medication and Fall Incident Reviews, Medication Safety, Code Rapid/Code Blue Work Group, Wound Prevention Work Group, Policies and Procedures and other appropriate committees/workgroups.
- Conducts quarterly new resident orientation to provide education on incident reporting database and other risk related issues.
- Manages and supports staff regarding attorney or other legal representative requests, including but not limited to correspondence, depositions and subpoenas.
- Serves as a resource to case management and psychology staff regarding Power of Attorney, Guardianship, Custody, and Advanced Directive paperwork.
- Assist in coordination of court appointed guardianship hearings.
- Screen referrals to Adult Protective Services (APS) and Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS).
- Collaborates with defense legal counsel and internal General Counsel regarding potential or active lawsuits and other legal related issues.
- Submits potential claims to insurance carrier regarding active or anticipated litigation or claim.
- Recommends appropriate revisions to new or existing policies and procedures to reduce the frequency of future occurrences, recommends ways to minimize risks through system changes.
- Manages Incident Reporting Database ensuring reports are complete and accurate, providing supporting documentation as needed. Provide feedback on findings, and suggestions to eliminate risks and assist departments in completion of intensive analysis of incidents that require review.
- Assists in identifying risks and trends communicating with directors and other departments to evaluate risk related issues , identify process change, implement and monitor to ensure mitigation of risks.
- Assists in annual hospital wide insurance review and policy renewals.
- Manage requirements for Shepherd Center approved drivers, including annual motor vehicle reports and initial completion of required education and competencies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with Center and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.
- Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process.
