About the Job
What You'll Do:
The Risk Specialist administers the onsite risk management program on a day-to-day basis, managing and analyzing risks, conducting risk management education, and complying with Joint Commission standards and other regulatory agencies, with the goal of enhancing and promoting recipient safety, quality of care, and minimizing losses to the organization. This includes the development, revision, implementation, and continued adherence to policies and procedures that improve both recipient care and employee safety, as well as meeting all regulatory standards.
- Serves as a point of contact for investigation, resolution, and response of internal recipient and external (i.e. Health plan) complaints. In addition, may coordinate with the Director of Licensing and Accreditation on responses to complaints received from the Joint Commission or other Regulatory agencies
- Works with the site-based staff and facilities to ensure all incidents are documented and reported as required to external regulatory bodies.
- Works in conjunction with all necessary individuals and departments in the investigation of potential or actual event/s concerns. Participates in root cause analysis investigations as appropriate.
- Completes and documents facility inspections every 6 months to identify areas of risk and/or improvement to ensure compliance with regulatory/accreditation standards.
- Audits video footage of seclusion and restraints when injuries occur during an event and at random to prevent and reduce liability.
- Identifies opportunities to prevent, reduce, and control loss to the organization, its individuals, visitors, and employees. Coordinates with leadership to develop strategies, implement practices, and assist with the creation policy to mitigate identified risks.
- Coordination and facilitation of drills in facilities.
- Coordinates with the appropriate departments regarding site visits or audit requests from state Health regulatory agencies or accrediting bodies.
- Communication with state regulators, when needed, to inquire about state-specific requirements.
- Assist with creating policies to reflect company vision and mission under direction of Vice President of Risk & Compliance.
- Ensures that policies are developed in collaboration with leadership and reflective of the Accreditation Agency and the State standards.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
What You'll Bring:
- Associate degree, plus one (1) year of experience with accreditation or state licensing requirements and processes, to include local licensing requirements, Joint Commission, and other federal regulatory bodies, OR
- High school diploma, plus (2) years of experience with accreditation or state licensing requirements and processes.
- Requires the ability to manage, communicate, and negotiate in challenging situations, with sensitivity to operations and culture of facilities and organization as a whole.
- Demonstrated proficiency in using verbal and written skills to clearly communicate complex information to regulators and staff.
- Self-motivated in managing competing priorities in a timely manner.
- Must pass the following background checks
- Child Abuse Clearance
- FBI Criminal Background Check
- Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check
- Level 1 Fingerprint clearance card
- The Company has a mandatory vaccination policy. All successful applicants must be fully vaccinated, including showing proper documentation, or otherwise be exempt pursuant to the Company’s exemption process prior to their start date as a condition of employment.
It would be nice if you had:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 2 years of experience with accreditation or state licensing requirements and processes, to include local licensing requirements, Joint Commission, and other federal regulatory bodies.

The standard hiring range for this position in Harrisburg, PA is $56,100-66,000 yearly. The exact compensation will be based on factors such as years of experience, competency, and skill level.
