Position Summary:
The Clinical Coordinator plays a vital role in overseeing the designated nursing care units, with a Clinical Coordinator assigned to one of two unit groups: The Progressive Care Unit & Emergency Department, and The Maternal Child Unit & Surgical Services Department. Each Coordinator ensures the efficient flow of patient care, manages staff, maintains compliance with hospital policies, and fosters collaboration within their assigned department to provide the highest standard of care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Departmental Oversight: Provide clinical oversight over designated units, ensuring that care protocols are followed, and patients receive timely, appropriate care.
- Staff Management: Lead, mentor, and supervise nursing and ancillary staff in all assigned units. Coordinate staffing schedules and ensure that teams are fully equipped to handle patient needs.
- Patient Flow Coordination: Supports the flow of patients across the departments, including admissions, discharges, and transfers. Work to minimize delays and ensure efficient use of beds and resources as determined by the Flow Coordinator.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Foster effective communication and collaboration between departments, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Coordinate care plans, address clinical issues, and promote teamwork.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all clinical operations meet hospital policies, state and federal regulations, and accreditation standards. Maintain compliance with specialty-specific care protocols in units such as ED, Maternal Child, and OR.
- Quality and Safety Initiatives: Participate in quality improvement projects aimed at enhancing patient outcomes, safety, and care efficiency. Implement evidence-based practices and monitor performance metrics across all departments.
- Clinical Documentation and Reporting: Ensure accurate and timely documentation in all nursing units, including detailed patient care reports, surgical records, and recovery notes. Prepare reports on unit performance and patient outcomes as needed.
- Education and Training: Assist in onboarding, educating, and developing clinical staff in all assigned departments. Lead ongoing training sessions to ensure staff is updated on best practices, new technologies, and hospital protocols.
- Resource and Equipment Management: Oversee the management of clinical resources, including medical equipment, medications, and supplies across all units. Ensure that equipment is properly maintained and available when needed.
- Patient Advocacy: Serve as a patient advocate, addressing concerns and ensuring that care is patient-centered across the different units. Promote a culture of compassion and excellence in patient care.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license required in Vermont
- Experience: 3-5 years of clinical experience in relevant units (e.g., PCU, SCU, ED, OR, PACU). Leadership or supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
- Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple units, prioritize tasks, and handle stressful situations. Proficiency in EHR and clinical software systems.
- Certifications: BLS/ACLS required. Specialty certifications relevant to individual units.
