Job Description Summary
This is a full time exempt employee responsible for the overall direction of the hospice services. He/she is responsible for the employment of qualified hospice personnel; is responsible for the provision of hospice services, directly, and through the delegation of and coordination of hospice personnel evaluations; is responsible for establishing standards of care to comply with federal and state regulations and guidelines.
The Director of Clinical Services establishes, implements and evaluates goals and objectives for hospice services that meet and promote the
standards of quality and contribute to the total organization and philosophy.
Qualification Requirements
Graduate of an accredited RN program.
Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of job location
Previous hospice experience required
Three (3) to five (5) years' experience in health care management.
Demonstrates an ability to supervise and direct professional and administrative personnel.
Has an ability to deal tactfully with the community.
Has knowledge of corporate business management.
Understands hospice care and the services provided to patient and family/caregiver through an interdisciplinary group.
Intimate knowledge of Medicare Hospice Certification.
Essential Job Responsibilities
ADMINISTRATIVE
1. Develops, implements and evaluates the Hospice goals and objectives in alignment with the organization's strategic direction.
2. Develops and implements required Hospice policies and procedures to ensure identified outcomes
3. Ensures organizational compliance with legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements.
4. Ensures services provided by other agencies are authorized by hospice.
5. Monitors operational progress toward accomplishing operational and strategic goals.
6. Oversees the Hospice QAPI Plan and ensures compliance with all aspects of the program.
7. The incumbent may be requested to perform other job-related tasks as directed by the Administrator.
8. Will perform other duties as assigned.
FINANCIAL
1. Develops implements and manages the Hospice budget.
2. Monitors business operations to insure financial stability.
3. Evaluates hospice services and personnel using measurable outcomes and objectives.
4. Works with Billing and collections department to resolve hospice billing issues
5. Ensures appropriate data collection and regular, complete reports are received by the Governing Body.
6. Ensures adequate space, equipment and supplies are available.
7. Ensures actionable objectives are derived from evaluation of hospice services and personnel.
8. Ensures that structure and systems promote interdisciplinary care
HUMAN RESOURCES-TRAINING
1. Hires required Hospice staff and ensures adequate and appropriate staffing.
2. Conflict and complaint management and resolution.
3. Establishes and maintains effective channels of communication including integration or technology, as applicable.
4. Ensures hospice personnel stay current with clinical information and practices.
5. Staff development including orientation, in-service, continuing education, competency testing and quality assessment performance improvement.
6. Ensures that interdisciplinary care is provided.
7. Ensures supportive services are available to personnel.
8. Ensures coordination with other departments, services and senior management, as appropriate.
9. Ensures staff and organization stay current on local and national hospice issues and trends.
10. Direct staff in performance of their duties including admission, discharge, transfer, revocation, and provision of service to patients.
11. Ensures appropriate staff supervision during all service hours.
12. Monitors service utilization to ensure delivery of comprehensive care.
13. Ensures actionable objectives are derived from evaluation of hospice services and personnel.
14. Ensures that structure and systems promote interdisciplinary care.
15. Ensures collaboration with agencies and vendors for effective management of services.
16. Ensures standards of ethical business and clinical practice are maintained.
17. Hospice Liaison to Home Care.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Hearing and speaking ability required to communicate on the telephone and in person.
2. Must be able to lift up to fifty pounds and in emergency situations handle a patient's full body weight.
3. Vision is necessary for entering data.
4. Reaching is required for paper management.
5. Manual dexterity is required for operating the iPad, photocopier, and telephone.
6. Mobility is required to access patient's home.
7. Must be able to drive to and from the office to patient homes and inter office travel.
8. Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
9. Must be able to function independently and have personal integrity.
INTELLECTUAL REQUIREMENTS
1. An ability to learn all Health Services policies and procedures.
2. Judgment skills in processing telephone calls.
3. Organizational skills necessary to establish priority of tasks and meet deadlines.
4. An ability to operate all aspects of the iPad, photocopier, and telephone.
5. An ability to understand and follow instructions provided by the supervisor both in written and oral formats.
6. An ability to read, write and type.
7. Ability to supervisor subordinates
