This position's pay rate is a 25% premium on top of the base rate due to its participation in our Night Shift Option Program. CHKD evening / night / weekend differentials apply to participants in the Night Shift Option Program.
GENERAL SUMMARY
The RN- Clinical Care Leader (Night) is a part of the CHKDHS Night Shift Option Program and works a dedicated night shift (3rd shift) between the hours of 7:00PM and 7:00AM. This position is responsible for developing and sustaining an environment that promotes excellence in clinical practice and patient / family satisfaction, while striving for optimal efficiency and productivity of all resources. The RN - Clinical Care Leader (Night) utilizes the nursing process, leadership skills and current evidence based clinical knowledge to assess the health needs of patients, collaborate with health team members to coordinate patient care, anticipate outcomes of nursing interventions, and set criteria for the quality of patient care. May assume responsibility and accountability for 24-hour management of the assigned department(s) in the absence of the manager / director. The position involves direct patient care and clinical care coordination duties during the shift. Weekend and holiday call is required. Reports to the Nurse Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Provides patient and staff education / support / mentorship, clinical oversight / supervision, and participates in unit based activities to include but not limited to quality assessment, shared governance, scheduling, quality review, and staff development in-services.
- Provides direct patient care services to assigned patient population.
- Serves as a resource for clinical expertise and insight.
- Works to coordinate daily clinical activities for assigned patient group.
- Utilizes evidence-based practice to develop and implement standards of practice that guide practice improvement initiatives.
- Provides assistance to department leadership on planning and goal setting for the unit.
- Serves as a champion for organizational and departmental change as well as policy adherence.
- Works collaboratively with key professionals within the organization on human resources, performance improvement and fiscal management activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Current Virginia state license as a Registered Nurse or Registered Nurse holding a valid Compact State license.
- RN certification preferred.
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing required or actively enrolled in BSN program with graduation within three years.
- Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice.
- Two to three years of progressively more responsible neonatal/pediatric nursing experience preferred.
- Ability to work a dedicated night (3rd) shift between the hours of 7:00PM and 7:00AM.
- Demonstrates leadership skills, excellent communication skills and strong critical thinking skills necessary.
- Professional knowledge of areas of responsibility in order to assist in the planning and implementation of department activities.
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to assign work to subordinates.
- NICU: CPR training required and/or must be obtained within 45 days of hire. PICU: CPR training required as well as current PALS and Defibrillation/Cardioversion certifications. ED: CPR training within 30 days; PALS and ACLS certification within 6 months of hire; ENPC per direction of Education Coordinator.
Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
