About the Job
Supervises, manages and coordinates activities of nursing personnel on evening, night, and weekend shifts to maintain continuity of care 24 hours a day, seven days a week in the absence of the Unit Directors / Directors. Supervises and directs patient admissions, discharges and transfers on off shifts for appropriate placement of patients according to acuity level, skill mix required, census and staffing levels. Assumes administrative responsibility for the hospital in the absence of an administrative team member by coordinating hospital services and decision making in areas that impact nursing services. Collaborates in developing and attaining nursing leadership goals. Assumes other duties as needed by the organization.

Overview of Responsibilities:
- Performs direct patient care when necessary to supplement the staffing and patient care needs.
- Major job role is to act as a resource for charge nurses.
- Maintains broad clinical knowledge base in order to provide guidance and interpretation of nursing practice and activities. Serves as a clinical resource for nursing areas as well as other departments of the hospital.
- Demonstrates knowledge of various nursing and hospital policies/procedures, practices and standards for purpose of clinical application and problem solving.
- Responds immediately to requests for urgent evaluation of clinical situations.
- Routinely provides formal and informal education and learning opportunities for the staff to increase staff’s effectiveness to provide quality patient care.
- Frequently rounds on nursing units / departments to determine needs of staff and patients.
- Stays apprised of patient census, bed utilization and staff needs of the nursing areas. Directs resources to meet staffing needs and assists Charge Nurses in forecasting needs for the next shift.
- Recognizes and communicates key issues which affect quality of care, satisfaction and Reid’s mission.
- Establishes and maintains productive working relationships utilizing effective modes of communication.
- Participates in peer interviews.
- Provides educational updates to staff while rounding as requested.
- Initiates corrective action in conjunction with Unit Director/Director/Designee.
- Exhibits flexibility in scheduling, ensuring shift coverage 7 days per week.
- Actively participates in departmental / hospital Quality and LEAN initiatives as requested.
Licensure Required: Licensure in the State of Indiana as a Registered Nurse is required
Education Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Experience Preferred: 5 years nursing experience preferred, with 2 year’s experience at a management/supervisory level in an acute care facility preferred
Schedule Details:Day Shift. 36 Hours Weekly. 05:00am-5:30pm.What We Offer:
