JOB SUMMARY
The Quality Assurance Infection Preventionist (QA-IP) is a Registered Nurse (RN) who, under the direction of the facility QAPI Leadership, is responsible for coordinating, and overall direction and management of the Quality Assessment and Assurance Program, Restorative Nursing Program, Antibiotic Stewardship Program (ASP), and the Infection Prevention and Control Program (IPCP) that meets the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and facility requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have primary professional training in nursing, medical technology, microbiology, epidemiology, or other related field;
- Be qualified by education, training, experience, or certification;
- Have completed specialized training in infection prevention and control
- Prefer 1 year experience as Registered Nurse with experience in infection prevention and control procedures

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, perform overhead lifting and perform other common physical movements as needed for the position.
Ability to lift and carry in excess of 50 pounds.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / ASSIGNED TASKS
- Participate in ongoing education to maintain current licensure and CMS requirements for role.
- Participate in the completion of the facility assessment at least annually for determining the knowledge and skills required among staff to meet the resident’s needs.
- Work closely with the facility leaders in developing policies and procedures and a training plan based on facility assessment of identified needs and regulatory guidance.
- Provide planning, organization, and implementation of an ongoing education, consultation and oversight program related to Quality Assurance, Infection Prevention and Control, Antibiotic Stewardship, and Restorative Nursing. Educate staff, residents, and families regarding antibiotic stewardship, rehospitalization prevention, and other quality initiatives as indicated.
- Monitor documentation and provide timely education and feedback based on findings.
- Perform surveillance monitoring.
- Conduct outbreak investigations and reporting.
- Monitor for breaches in infection control practices during rounds and take timely corrective action.
- Analyze infection data for trends and develop action plan for findings.
- Maintain resident and employee immunizations and tuberculosis screening, and documentation.
- Complete reports and audits as assigned.
- Actively participate in QAPI Steering Committee duties as assigned.
- Perform other job duties and tasks as assigned.
