Job Summary

Under the leadership of the Nursing Director, the RN Mgr-Psychiatric Mental Health is a Registered Nurse responsible and accountable for the 24-hour planning, organizing, directing and evaluation of clinical, administrative and operational and regulatory/compliance activities for their assigned department(s) within a freestanding mental health hospital/facility. 

The scope of management responsibilities includes clinical and safety practices of nurses and other members of the clinical team, professional nursing practice, leadership and professional growth, human resource management, financial performance, system coordination and clinical performance (safety, patient experience and quality) improvement.

Job Responsibilities

1. Assists the Nursing leadership team to transform care delivery models and environmental design to ensure the delivery of safe patient care that is evidence based, accessible and affordable to all.
2. Identifies and resolves issues affecting the delivery of patient care services in the department(s) managed.
3. Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services.
4. Integrates quality and safety measures for patients into the care environment; ensures departmental compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
5. Manages staff including performance management, individualized development, pay recommendations, staff engagement, conflict management, etc.
6. Plays a key role in hiring and separation of staff.
7. Provides ongoing developmental opportunities through coaching, mentoring and performance management of employees to achieve behaviors aligned with the organization’s vision, mission and values.
8. Provides leadership and direction to nursing staff; and has 24-hour accountability ensuring all quality, financial, and service benchmarks, including compliance with environmental care standards are met.
9. Collaborates with the Nursing Director to develop, implement and manage a budget to ensure compliance with organizational budget guidelines.
10. Approves or monitors expenditures, purchases and other actions to ensure compliance with budget guidelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing
• Master of Science Nursing preferred
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in clinical practice
• Minimum of 2 years of progressive leadership required
• At least one year of supervisory experience is preferred
• Registered Nurse, State of CT
• Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA)
• Broad and thorough knowledge of the discipline of Nursing.
• Working knowledge of high reliability and LEAN process improvement strategies.
• Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor for career advancement and professional development.
• Exceptional ability to lead courageous conversations, hold colleague accountable and manage change and conflict.
• Specialized knowledge in area of specialty principles, practices and trends. 
• Strong ability to plan, organize and direct the work of others.
• Strong ability to foster successful team efforts working with a variety of management, medical/clinical staff.

• Basic financial budget knowledge.
• Strong understanding of safety, security and joint commission standards as it pertains to role.
