POSITION SUMMARY:  RN Supervisor/RN Manager RN,  Under the direction of the Director of Nursing and in collaboration with all department heads, is responsible for the general management of either the facility LTC or STC operation which includes providing optimal care, communicating the facility's policies and ensuring the general order, safety and cleanliness of the facility.

 TITLE OF SUPERVISOR: Director of Nursing Services/Assistant Director of Nursing Services

TITLE OF IMMEDIATE SUBORDINATES: Charge Nurse RN/LPN

 POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

 Education / Experience:

 ·         Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Connecticut. 

·         Minimum of three years of experience in geriatric nursing or rehabilitation.  Requires at least one year of experience in a supervisory capacity.

·         Knowledge of nursing theory and practice including the administration of medications.

·         IV-line management certification preferred

·         CPR certified.

·         Ability to read, write and comprehend English; ability to follow oral and written instructions. Strong written, verbal, analytical and interpersonal skills.

·         Fluent knowledge of word processing (including Microsoft Office) and other office equipment.

·         Ability to work hours as scheduled based on the requirements of the position assignment.

Working Conditions: Works in an appropriately lighted and ventilated environment.

 Physical Requirements:

 ·         Successful completion of pre-employment physical.

·         Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day, proper body mechanics required - bending, stooping, turning, stretching, and reaching above the shoulders are involved.

·         Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics/equipment that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.

·         Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 1.      Assists in interpretation of nursing policies and ensures appropriate implementation. Directs and enforces policies and procedures with staff, families, and visitors.

 2.      For nursing staff, supervises and coordinates activities to ensure continuity of nursing care; acts as a resource in all areas of clinical care; resolves work related issues pertaining to nursing and CNA staff; and provides education, mentoring, and corrective action as appropriate.

 3.      Makes rounds on nursing units to ensure maximum care and to ascertain condition of residents and communicates family concerns as appropriate.

 4.      Responds to emergencies within the facility and provides medical oversight.

 5.      Verifies that all clinical changes are reported to the physician and verification of physicians’ orders as well.

 6.      Secures pre-admission report on new residents.

 7.      Ensures a safe environment for residents and staff.

 8.      Ensures all documentation on medical record is complete and is accurate (including but not limited to: A & I’s; 24 Hour Nursing Report; Nursing Assessments; MD Orders; changes in conditions, documentation involving admissions, discharges, deaths, and transfers).  Conducts chart audits.

 9.      Ensures availability of supplies and equipment and reports malfunctioning equipment to DNS/ADNS.

 10.  Oversees schedules of physicians. Notifies physicians and Medical Director that visits to residents are due.

 11.  Assumes DNS/ADNS responsibility in their absence and charge nurse responsibility when necessary.

 12.  Ensure crash cart is properly stocked. 

 13.  Audits control of drugs and counts controlled medications in omnicell twice monthly.

 14.  Ensures that all peripheral IV’s are initiated per facility policy and monitors overall IV program.  Ensures IV policy is updated annually.

 15.  Responsible to assign nursing personnel in emergencies to maintain patient care hours.

 16.  Assists in the recruitment, selection and of orientation nursing staff as needed.

 17.  Completes 90-day and annual employee performance reviews.

 18.  Attends care plan meetings as needed.

 19.  Assumes responsibility for Medicare residents by attending weekly Medicare meetings pertaining to the STC unit (when applicable).

 20.  Attends meetings appropriately including but not limited to morning report, standards of care, OAPI.

 21.  Ensures pharmacy consultant recommendations are followed up and completed.

 22.  Audit medication ordering using refill ‘too soon’ reports.

 23.  Conducts pain management audits.
