Overview:
He/she is responsible for the planning, coordination and directing quality compassionate care by maintaining standards of professional nursing practice and creating positive therapeutic relationships with patients/families. They also provide leadership to other team members by articulating expected standards of care, supervising and encouraging team members, and supporting their contributions. No weekends or calls.
Responsibilities:
- Assesses condition on each assigned patient on admission and on an ongoing basis to include but not limited to the patient’s physical condition, psychological status, social status, spiritual and cultural needs, pain assessment/management, nutritional and functional status, developmental or age related factors, and discharge planning needs. Specific ages: neonates, pediatric, adolescent, and adult and geriatric as defined by scope of service. Evaluates and regularly reevaluates the nursing needs of the patient; initiates, develops, implements, and makes necessary revisions to the patient’s plan of care according to problems identified.
- He/she monitors, directs and evaluates patient care delivery for all patients within the Imaging Department.
- Prioritizes customer and patient satisfaction and utilizes AIDET principles. Works with other departments, modalities and personnel to provide above average care to patients and families.
- Follows imaging department and DCH Health System policies and procedures. Follows safety practices and helps to maintain a clean, safe environment.
- Administers medication, IV therapy and performs treatments to all assigned patients, according to policy and procedure. Expected to have knowledge of contrast and possible contrast reactions. Able to do sedation in Angio. Knowledge of sedation medication as well as reversal agents.
- Uses I Care principles to ensure proper patient identification, correct exam, and to improve patient communication and engagement.
- Able to assist physician with stress procedures. Expected to have knowledge of medications for cardiac stress procedures as well as reversal.
- Able to monitor patients.
- Reports pertinent patient observations and test results to the appropriate person (i.e., physicians, nurse manager, charge nurse and/or nursing supervisor) and records those observations accurately and concisely.
- Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patients such as cardiac arrest. Able to recognize dysrhythmia. Expected to have knowledge of emergency and procedural medications.
- Able to hold arterial and venous pressure for extended periods.
- Works with manager/supervisor/staff to control inventory. Communicates problems and needs as required.
- Familiar with processes for multiple staffing locations to include: Inpatient, ED, Outpatient and Northport.
- Expected to be multi-task oriented.
- Efficient in scheduling and coordinating care for interventional radiology patients.
- Provides nursing services and is familiar with multiple disciplines and procedures within the Imaging department. Assists as needed throughout the department.
- Works with the manager/supervisor/staff to control and maintain inventory and supplies and communicates problems and supply needs as required.
- Any job assignment requiring call during off duty hours becomes part of that duty and will be compensated as is customary for the hospital.
- Able to wear lead aprons for extended periods.
- Plans, provides and documents patient and/or significant other education based on physical, behavioral, psychological, developmental, and age-related factors, after identifying barriers to learning.
- Practices good stewardship with supplies, equipment and department resources to assist in maintaining the financial viability of the DCH Health System.
- Provides ongoing status updates to patient and /or significant other by utilizing established notification processes.
- Applies safety principles when performing care and accurately documents observations, care provided and changes in care plan. Accurately documents care provided/observations according to policies and procedures.
- Assigns and delegates nursing care to team members in accordance with the patient’s needs and the capabilities of the team members.
- Functions proficiently in specified area with little or no supervision.

- Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook. Fulfills education requirements for assigned position including DCH Health System and Imaging required CBT’s, in-services, meetings and educational sessions.

- Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet. Responds timely to all forms of communication
- Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Current Alabama RN licensure.
- Must be CPR, ACLS certified as needed.
- Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
