General Description:
Under general direction, assists in planning, directing and coordinating activities for Respiratory Service programs.
Essential Responsibilities:

- Performs duties of shift supervisor
- Observes and evaluates job performance of lower level professionals and technicians
- Schedules staffing and work assignments, orients and trains new employees
- Administers specialized respiratory treatments including setting up and monitoring of long-term life support equipment, ventilation care, oxygen therapy, inhalation treatments and performs blood gas analysis procedures
- Prepares and administers prescribed medications
- Observes patient during treatment and notifies attending physician or nurse of any adverse reactions
- Makes an entry of treatment in patient's medical record
- Maintains respiratory therapy equipment, reports any failure of equipment and institutes measures for its immediate repair
- Ensure equipment is sterilized and ready for use
- Assist the director in determining respiratory therapy equipment and supply needs
- Maintains inventory control of equipment and supplies
- Assists in preparing and/or presenting in-service education and training programs
- Provides technical advice to medical staff
- Maintains necessary respiratory therapy records and ensures appropriate documentation is completed for assigned shift
- Assist in quality assurance audits in recording compliance or non-compliance within established departmental guidelines
General Responsibilities:
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduation from an approved respiratory care program.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience as a registered respiratory therapist. 1 to 3 years of progressive leadership experience.
Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required: Possession of a valid Oklahoma license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, and Registry (RRT) from the National Board of Respiratory Care. BLS(American Heart Association) certification upon hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of respiratory therapy operations and equipment. Knowledge of patient reactions to various medical gases and signs of medical complications. Knowledge of principles and methods of supervision and training. Skill in using and maintaining all respiratory therapy equipment. Skill in placing patients at ease. Ability to keep necessary equipment and medical records. Ability to deal effectively with others.
