Business Unit (BU).
What you'll do
SAFETY
- Coordinate all BU safety and compliance initiatives with BU President, Director of Operations, Area Managers under the guidance of HSE.
- Ensure every location conducts monthly safety meetings involving all employees; collects and files attendance forms.
- Work with all BU staff to ensure safe working conditions and interact with team members and management to continually reinforce safe work practices, pointing out and collaborating to control hazards and risks and encouraging positive behavior. Promotes good safety culture.
- Ensure all safety plans and programs are implemented, reviewed and updated according to changes in regulations or process/policy/equipment.
- Perform local safety inspections and training.
- Investigate accidents and injuries; recommends ways to avoid reoccurrence.
- Coordinate on-site safety training.
- Oversee and assists managers with annual facility inspections and follow- ups.
- Perform facility safety inspections on newly acquired facilities and/or properties, within the BU.
- Provide inspection reports to President, Director of Operations and HSE.
- Ensure that correct PPE for all job tasks are provided with associated training.
- Ensure that drivers comply with all safety regulations and that monthly vehicle inspection forms are completed by all employees that drive a Company vehicle.
- Actively participate in safety committee meetings.
COMPLIANCE
- Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, DEM, DNR, Department of Health and Public Service Commission standards.
- Communicate regularly with employees and management to ensure the assigned BU operates in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.
- Monitor all DMR's, MOR's and water quality tests.
- Track implementation of capital projects to ensure compliance with environmental regulations (e.g. radium, arsenic, etc.).
- Perform follow-up on all non-compliance advisories to address the specific issue and any underlying issues.
- Negotiate and tracks consent orders/compliance schedules to assure timely completion and closure.
- Provide reports to senior management to demonstrate compliance assurance.
- Maintain files on Notice of Violations, inspection reports, etc. for all facilities and Company response.
- Compile annual Consumer Confidence Report and any customer notifications regarding water quality.
- Act as liaison between HSE Manager and the BU to implement standardized practices, policies and procedures.
- Stay abreast of upcoming changes in regulations; works with Operations Support team to evaluate their impact on Company operations and capital planning.
Additional Responsibilities
- Performs employee job safety observations as needed.
- Conducts or assists managers with New Employee Safety Orientation for all new hires prior to entering the workplace.
- Assists managers with general and specific security concerns.
- Ensures that all documents regarding the safety program are completed and filed appropriately.
What you bring
Experience
- Requires a minimum of 3 years of regulatory compliance and/or safety experience and an in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of relevant codes and standards associated with regulatory agencies such as OSHA, EPA, etc. One or more years of experience in environmental health and safety, or the equivalent in related work experience, demonstrating experience in aggressive worker's compensation claims management is preferred.
Education and Certification
- Bachelor degree in Environmental Health Sciences, Safety or related field, or the equivalent in related work experience demonstrating the ability to manage compliance and safety programs, as well as incident investigations.
- Valid Driver's License
Nice to Have
- Certified Safety Professional, OSHA 30-hour course, Operator certification(s) in water and/or wastewater treatment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; previous public speaking experience required.
- Excellent analytical, communication and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to motivate others in pursuit of Company goals.
- Ability to understand and implement a variety of the industry's concepts, practices and procedures.
- Reliance on previous experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Familiarity with computer applications MS Word, Excel and utilizing tablet and mobile device; ability to learn internal software programs Ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools and/or materials used in performing essential functions.

- Frequent travel may be required
- This position is exposed to a normal office environment as well as working outdoors in a plant environment. Exposed to loud noise, wastewater, chemicals and high voltage where electrical shock is a potential hazard. Occasionally encounters extreme cold or hot conditions and potential contact with hazardous chemicals.
- Must wear/use all protective equipment were required including hearing protection, safety glasses, chemical suites and personal protective equipment when handling hazardous materials; must be OSHA compliant.
