Position Summary
The Safety Supervisor Level I is responsible for all project safety functions necessary to support the Infrastructure Market Sector service line to which they serve. This includes implementing the core components of the service line's corporate safety strategy. The applicant is expected to maintain effective communication with service line and area leadership teams. The applicant is expected to represent the service line to satisfy customer safety-related needs. The applicant shall act as the primary technical safety and leadership resource to the area within the service line to which they serve.
Responsibilities
- Implement the service line safety strategy across projects to minimize risk.
- Emphasize involvement in safety processes from all levels of management and craft.
- Promote good safety leadership at all levels of their area.
- Set exemplary standards of ethics and stewardship of resources.
- Implement an open and effective communication strategy across the service line area to include incidents, lessons learned, and performance indicators.
- Drive consistency where practical in the safety program across all projects.
- Prepare and present monthly service line safety performance reports to include work hours, lagging indicators, observation completion/trending data, major incidents, and incident trending data.
- Assure that all projects have a written safety plan.
- Facilitate regulatory visits and provide support for projects during regulatory inquiries.
- Evaluate project safety programs, issue recommendations, and implement changes.
- Assure full utilization of Donesafe and Power BI to manage incident and observation information.
- Review corrective actions related to incidents and near-miss events assuring they follow the SMART model.
- Participate in tactical planning and support of service line, area, and market sector safety initiatives.
- Take an active role in incident investigation and injury case management.
- Assure all incident reports have accurate and complete root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Attend project planning events to provide safety support at the earliest phase of projects.
- Coordinate with the area director to support safety staffing availability and needs.
- Implement and maintain an effective front-line supervisor safety leadership training program.
- Conduct documented project inspections to identify at-risk conditions and behaviors.
- Following each site visit, conduct a documented close-out meeting with project leadership to discuss findings, necessary corrective actions, and target completion timelines.
- Assure that all projects are in full compliance with corporate safety policies and applicable regulations, including documentation retention and OSHA recordkeeping.
- Perform and communicate regular (at least monthly) leading indicators assessments to proactively identify trends and recommend corrective action before a loss occurs.
- Develop and present training on a variety of subjects with or without subject matter experts (SME's)
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in safety, or safety-related field from an accredited university (Preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience (Required).
- Minimum of 10 years of construction safety experience if no degree.
- OSHA 500 certification (Preferred).
- First Aid and CPR instructor Certified (Required, can obtain post-hire).
- CHST or equivalent (Preferred).
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations for application in the Service Line.
- Strong understanding of risk mitigation techniques.
- Develop reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
- Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent computer skills
- Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables.
- Working knowledge of government regulations, safety compliance, and Industrial Hygiene.
- Strong business acumen, analytic skills, a critical thinking ability
- Strong understanding of organizational behavior
- Ability to influence where direct reporting lines do not exist
- Team player and self-starter
- Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, planning, and time management.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and be subject to random screening during employment.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Bilingual (English-Spanish) preferred.
