Position Overview
Under the direction of the Safety Director, the Safety Manager oversees and provides technical and compliance expertise to the field managers and employees in terms of good safety habits and provide direction and skills for a safe work environment within the ready mix concrete division. This position works closely with all levels of management and personnel to achieve goals and support the safety of each of the company’s business units.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Assists with audits of plant facilities regulated under OSHA, General Industry and Construction Standards.
- Investigate all incidents for root-cause to ensure unsafe conditions/behavior is not repeated.
- Participate on safety committee meetings and provide insight and resources on matters relating to committee safety concerns and corrective solutions.
- Investigate accidents or incidents to determine root causes and develop strategies for prevention.
- Conduct job site and plant safety inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA 1910 General and 1926 Construction industries.
- Assist with plant and roadway incident investigations and document all accidents, safety violations, injuries, and unsafe conditions/activities to find root cause and make recommendations for improvement.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Coordinate with external agencies, such as OSHA or EPA, as necessary.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards and recommend appropriate control measures.
- Design and develop effective safety training programs for employees at all levels.
- Evaluate training needs based on job requirements and industry standards.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal FMCSA regulations.
- Create engaging training materials, including presentations, handouts, and online modules.
- Monitor and evaluate safety performance metrics.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote a culture of safety and sustainability.
- Oversee and direct the work of five field safety representatives.
- Provide health and safety support to Safety Director.
- Other duties as assigned by the Safety Director.
- Overnight travel 25%.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Education/Experience
- At least 5 years of construction and/or industrial safety experience
- Thorough understanding of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local and company regulations.
- Bachelor’s Degree EHS preferred.
Work Requirements
Must have a valid, state issued driver’s license.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement essential corrective measures.

- Understands and is familiar with OSHA 1910, 1925 standards, and FMCSA
- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
- Must be able to orchestrate multiple activities simultaneously to accomplish a goal.
- Able to use resources effectively and efficiently and arrange information in a useful manner.
- Be able to be a strong voice in bringing the company’s slogan of SEE, STOP, DO to the forefront.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills
- OHST, ASP, or CSP
- ACI Field Grade 1 certification
- OSHA Authorized Trainer 10 and 30 Hour (General and Construction)
- Smith System Certified Trainer
Physical Requirements

- Able to communicate with others by telephone and in person.
- Able to utilize a computer for word processing, e-mail communication, and preparation of documents and presentations.
- Knowledge in MS Excel, MS Word, Powerpoint and Outlook.
- Intermittent climbing, bending, squatting, kneeling are required.
- Periodic, but extensive walking and standing required.
- Must also be able to drive a vehicle and walk uneven terrain.
- May require periodically lifting objects up to 40 lbs.
Work Environment
- May be exposed to extreme hot, cold, and wet weather.
