Corporate Safety and Quality Specialist
The Corporate Safety and Quality Specialist is responsible for providing safety, quality, and technical support across all business units. This role manages the collection, analysis, and reporting of trends related to company-wide safety and quality incidents, audits, root causes, and corrective actions. Additionally, the specialist supports incident investigations and process improvements to mitigate safety and quality risks. The role also includes managing the company's software platform (Salus) for all incidents, safety training events, programs, and reference materials, and developing new applications and forms as needed. With comprehensive knowledge of safety and occupational health requirements, the specialist assists in preparing and presenting safety programs, SOPs, and training events.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead the trend analysis of safety and quality incidents, including root cause analysis and identifying areas for improvement.
- Maintain, update, and audit company safety injury and quality incident databases, as well as training records.
- Serve as the primary administrator and point of contact for the Salus platform.
- Ensure the accuracy and maintenance of company injury/illness logs in compliance with OSHA, CALOSHA, and MSHA standards.
- Prepare and present monthly safety and quality reports and dashboards for regional and company-wide leadership.
- Track and report leading and lagging safety and quality metrics, including progress along the company’s maturity path.
- Coordinate safety, quality, and leadership training, ensuring materials and sessions are up-to-date and effectively communicated.
- Assist in the preparation and participate in leadership and safety training events.
- Visit work sites and branches as needed to validate information, perform audits, and provide training.
- Maintain and distribute safety and quality policies, procedures, and documentation; provide these to internal teams and external stakeholders as required.
- Act as the company safety representative for external customer databases (e.g., ISNET, Common Ground Alliance) and provide safety responses for customer pre-qualifications.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all safety, environmental, and quality issues.
Qualifications:
- Provide administrative support to the Corporate Safety and Quality Director and department team members.
- Strong knowledge of safety and occupational health compliance requirements, as well as injury prevention methods.
- Expertise in data analysis, trend identification, and root cause analysis related to safety and quality.
- Adaptability and flexibility to manage changing priorities and timelines while solving problems effectively.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to inspire and influence both leadership and operational teams.
- Proven time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaboration skills to work both independently and in a team-oriented setting.
- Demonstrated passion for continuous improvement and a proactive approach to solving problems and improving processes.
- Strong work ethic and integrity, with a commitment to getting tasks done right while adhering to internal and external requirements.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation, analysis, and reporting.
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
- Must be able to travel 20-30% of the time to various sites and branches.
- Capable of conducting multi-day training sessions and site visits as required.
Experience and Education:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety and health programs, training, and data analysis.
- Experience in construction, construction materials, or a related field is a plus.
- Associate’s degree in Safety, Engineering, Construction Management, Occupational Health, or a related field is preferred.
- At least one advanced certification in Safety is required: CALOSHA 10, 30, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of OSHA, CALOSHA, MSHA, and other state and federal safety regulations.
- First Aid and CPR certification required.
- Familiarity with Six Sigma and PBI methodologies is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
