That means that we work together for our clients’ best interests, not in separate silos or playing politics, so you’ll work with directly with leaders to provide SALT expertise to our clients. You'll be responsible for advising clients of the state and local tax implications relating to their business objectives, recommending alternate course of action, as well as identifying different methods of complying with state and local tax regulations. Some of what that includes:
- Assist multistate companies with state and local tax issues with a focus on optimization and risk management. This may include nexus determinations, audit defense planning, notice responses, and VDA projects
- Preforming technical review of partnership and corporate state and local tax returns, identifying most significant state and local tax issues
- Supervise the day-to-day workload of SALT Senior Associates and Associates on assigned engagements and reviews work product
- Research and analyze a wide range of state and local tax issues and implications, including nexus considerations, apportionment methodology, and combined filings
- Draft memorandums, opinions, matrices, and other documentation on various tax issues
- Assist multistate companies with state and local tax controversy which includes responding to state and local tax authorities; managing state and local tax audits; representing the client throughout the audit process and at hearings and appeal meetings; preparing protests
- Apply industry standards and firm policies as they relate to ASC 740/FAS 109 and /FIN 48, as well as FAS 5 for sales tax and unclaimed properties
- Review studies of tax implications to identify alternative courses of action to benefit clients; develop new or improved ideas to advance the position of clients, the firm or firm personnel through reduction in taxes or expenses or offering of non-tax benefits
- Participate in billing and collections
Requirements
What makes you a fit for this role?
- 4+ years of recent related experience, preferably in a large local/regional or Big 4 public accounting firm that includes working in a paperless environment, reviewing complex returns, researching complex tax issues, performing tax research and providing technical advice on state and local tax issues, managing client engagements, training and supervising Staff and Seniors, and collection of accounts receivable
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including giving and receiving both positive and constructive feedback
- Organized, detail-oriented, and good at problem-solving
- Self-starter with experience in managing multiple concurrent engagements/projects
- Adaptable to changing technology; strong proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and tax software (preferably CCH Axcess & Engagement)
- Collaborative approach to getting work done, shares knowledge, and asks questions
- CPA, Certified Member of the Institute (CMI), or bar license (potential flexibility regarding certifications/licensing for highly qualified individuals)

Compensation and benefits:
- Salary range is $115K - $135K annually, varying DOE. Compensation may be adjusted for those who live in areas with a higher cost of labor than Portland, OR
