About the role:
Within the Sample Preparation Department, the Sample Preparation Technician will work with client samples and prepare them for analysis by particle size reduction as well as perform analytical testin
- Grinding of solid samples using knife mills
- Ringing, sieving (including Foreign Soils), crushing, splitting;
- Work with liquid nitrogen to freeze samples prior to grinding
- Loading and unloading drying ovens; record weights
- Generate responsibility reports and complete workflows in LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System);
- Perform analytical testing such as Moisture, Particle Size Analysis, Hydrometer, Atterberg Limits, Density, and other analyses as needed;
- Daily cleaning as scheduled
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures as assigned
- Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality; report non-conformances to Supervisor
- Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures; report all incidents to Supervisor
- Other duties as assigned.
About you:
- Moderate proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Good hand-eye coordination;
- Good organizational skills;
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team;
- Basic alpha/numeric comprehension;
- Basic English communication skills (written and verbal).
- Some lab experience preferred but not required
- The ideal candidate would be organized, self-motivated, able to work in a fast pace environment, and have an eagerness to learn.
Required Qualifications:
- The ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- High School Diploma.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods;
- Ability to work in a sometimes warm and dusty environment;
- Ability to work in an environment that may contain odorous samples (respirator/mask is provided)
- Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including but not limited to lab coat, glasses/goggles, ear protection, gloves, respirator, closed-toe shoes
- Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks;
- Ability to lift to 50lbs;
- Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
- Be cleanly-shaven in order to wear protective equipment;(half-face respirator, as needed – fit testing and certification will be provided);
