Position Summary:
The Sanitation Manager must possess educational background and technical aptitude as it relates to food plant sanitation programs, chemical handling, and Food Safety programs. A general knowledge of Food and environmental microbiological testing as well as preventative measures including sanitary design and automated sanitation and efficiency is preferred. This role will report to the QA Manager, have a Sanitation Supervisor and small team reporting to them. They will work closely with operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops and implement strategic sanitation program, policies, plans, and processes to ensure that sanitary performance meets company standards as well as
- Supports Food Safety requirement towards regulatory compliance
- Oversee the cleaning and sanitization of equipment, surfaces, utensils and plant environment by providing direction, coaching, working ‘hands on’ to motivate and provide technical support to all sanitation employees and other plant employees as required
- Plan sanitation requirements and activities by establishing priorities, scheduling, assigning work and communicating with sanitation staff and key stakeholders frequently and regularly within timelines
- Work with maintenance, quality, and operations to effectively drive sanitation change through observation, coaching, education, executing, and planning.
- Audit and report non-compliance and take corrective actions to assure compliance to all quality assurance food safety requirements on a regular and daily basis
- Address sanitation requirements using Master Sanitation Schedules (MSS) and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP). Conduct necessary training to address sanitation / hygiene / GMP compliance. Familiarity with Software programs for MSS and food safety programs a plus.
- Accountable for the result and action plan of sanitation audits
- Manages annual sanitation plan, budget forecast and performance
- Manage sanitation Chemical supply and inventory
- Ensure that the plant is cleaned daily and ready to start production on time
- Lead regular Sanitation meetings with Plant Manager, Maintenance, Operations and QA or other departments as required
- Develop and execute training to meet all job requirements and ensure compliance with all company and regulatory requirements.
- Order, manage inventory and safely store sanitation agents and cleaning supplies
- Track and trend critical sanitation metrics (micro swabs ATP swabs, pre op deficiencies) to measure performance and achieve improvements while maintaining all standards
- Oversee and direct activities related to pest control including monitoring, recordkeeping, exclusion practices and treatment programs.
- Ensure compliance with local, state and federal food safety laws including applicable parts of the Code of Federal Regulations, FDA Food Code and Good Manufacturing Practices Regulations.
- Participate and assist in external auditing schemes such as GFSI - SQF requirements including various customer / 3rd party audit expectations. Analyze audit results; implement corrective actions as required to address audit non-conformances.
- Support and execute the Company’s Food Safety programs at the facility in conjunction with Quality Assurance, Microbiology and Food Safety. Provide input on sanitation excellence across the organization.
- Support and promote the company’s health and safety program, maintain a safe working environment and ensure continued compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act

- Backs up the Quality Manager when needed.
- Manages all sanitation activities within the facility to include:
- Janitorial and Food safety Sanitation activities
- Pest Control Program leadership including relationship with Third party Pest Control provider, Pest control License, and documentation of all Pest Control Program requirements.
- Inventory of Sanitation and Pest Control resources such as chemicals, cleaning material, and janitorial supplies.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Education and Experience Required:
- 2 to 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- PCQI certified preferred but not required
- Bachelor's degree (B.S.) preferred, but can be substituted with additional experience
- Previous experience with automated CIP systems a plus but not required.
- Knowledge of food safety systems and act as SME where required.
- Aptitude or educational experience with sanitation chemicals
- Ability to work with cross functional teams.
- Strong interpersonal, communications, coaching and project management skills.
- Excellent skills with Word and Excel Software.
- Good autonomy and organizational skills.
- Must be willing to work weekends, extended shifts, holidays, and overtime
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:
- 2+ years manufacturing food, beverage, or consumer packaging experience
- Ability to work well with others in a team environment and independently.
- Self-motivated and manages time efficiently.

- Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred.
