Day Shift: 6am-230pm Monday - Friday
Shields is experienced growth in the fourth quarter of 2023 which has carried over into 2024 and we have an immediate opportunity for 1 Saw Operator on the Day shift. These team members will carry out a variety of tasks in a fast-paced, schedule-driven environment.
The job summary:
Safely and efficiently cut various types of material according to blueprints and travelers.
While not inclusive, this position will provide support in the following areas of the Saw Department:
Sawing:Sets up and operates vertical and horizontal saws to cut sheet stock, bar stock, or tubing. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance including chip clean up, blade replacement, and coolant replacement. Ensures maximum part yields out of material based on set up sheets and cut lists. Accurately cuts material. Accurately accounts for the material used on each job by picking it out of ERP system. Looks at forecasted material needs to occasionally request additional material using internal request system. Effectively batches materials and parts together for the machinists.
Customer Service and Communication: Maintain the highest level of customer service to both internal and external customers. Contribute to building a strong and positive team environment. Keep management informed of any concerns that may adversely affect quality or safety. Maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
Verification of Product: Verifies materials requested on traveler against the blueprint, purchase order, and material certs. Provides material certs for First Article Inspections. Checks for accuracy of each traveler’s REV, materials, and routing.

The experience you have:
Education: Required: High School diploma or GED. Required: 1 year of experience as a sawyer. Preferred: 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
Computer Skills: Minimum ability to operate within a Windows environment, using email for communication. Usage of Data Collection software.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical data, schematics, prints and travelers is required. Effective interpersonal communication skills through a variety of methods are required.
Mathematical Skills: Intermediate math skills such as, addition, subtraction, percentages, and fractions.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands: This position requires standing for the majority of the day. Walking, bending, kneeling, squatting,stooping,handling,fingering,reaching,lifting,and pulling are necessary throughout the day as well.
Work Environment: The work environment for this position is that of an industrial machine shop/production facility. Employees may experience loud noises, (at varying levels), sharp edges (tooling and material), oil, and coolant throughout the workday.
