We have a 100% remote contract-to-hire opportunity for a Scaled Scrum Master. Our Scaled Scrum Master is the equivalent of a Release Train Engineer in SAFe. This person is coordinating a cross-functional Agile development team of teams for our P3 products, utilizing the principles and tools of the Scrum Framework at the Scaled Team level. Assumes a servant leadership role to support a self-organized team to complete Scrum projects. Identifies and removes impediments to progress. Facilitates Scaled Team level sprint planning events, daily scrums, sprint reviews, and retrospectives. Supports, coaches, and mentors team members and facilitates collaborative interactions and events aimed at delivering business value in a Scrum @ Scale environment.
This person is an Agilest at heart, observant, and influential on organizational members. They lead by example to influence and inspire team members as a leader who serves the team. They are a multiplier for the team, not a plus one.
Detailed Description
- Teach and mentor teams on Lean, Agile, and Scrum/Kanban principles and best practices. Facilitate team events in a way that brings out the ideas of everyone on the team. Ensures the outcomes of the events are achieved.
- Improve team dynamics – Work with the teams to implement and create new practices that will improve the team’s ability to deliver better outcomes. Ensure work environment is not just diverse but inclusive in background and thought. Foster a Kaizen mindset within and outside the team.
- Remove impediments – help the teams remove their own barriers, leverage Scrum of Scrum’s to remove barriers the team is unable to remove and challenge organizational impediments.
- May be a people manager

- Make work visible to ensure scaled impediments are removed and progress is visible.
- Remove impediments – help the scaled teams remove their own barriers, leverage network to remove barriers the team is unable to remove and challenge organizational impediments. Actively participate in the impediment removal process (Scrum of Scrums) and present and escalate at the various levels when needed
- Partner with Agile Coaches to create and work towards a coaching backlog for the Team of Teams
- They will need to challenge the teams to focus on their craft or technical excellence. Coach teams for higher performance with a focus on relentless improvement
- Act as a buffer between external distractions and the focused environment the team needs to be successful. Where beneficial, protect the team and minimize disruptions.
- Facilitate Big Room Planning. Facilitate cross-team orchestration, tracking and following up with internal and external dependencies to address critical bottlenecks.
- Facilitate and participate in scaled events, including cross-team planning, delivery synchronization, and systems-level inspect & adapt.
- Actively collaborate with Agile Coaches and Agile Leaders in the adoption of the Scrum @ Scale Framework, understand help resolve the challenges, dependencies, impediments, and opportunities that exist within with scaled teams that lead to operational excellence
- Collaborate with other Scrum Master, Sr. Scrum Masters, Product Owners where appropriate in both the Scrum of Scrums and MetaScrum cycle to refine and maintain Team of Team backlog
Required Skills:
- 5+ years of leadership experience
- 5+ years’ experience on a scrum team
- 5+ years of experience with lean and implementing a kaizen mindset
- 2+ years’ experience working in a Scaled environment, preferable Scrum @ Scale or SAFe
- Strong communication, interpersonal, coaching, teaching and mentoring skills
- Embody the Scrum Values: Openness, Respect, Courage, Commitment and Focus
- Must have a bias for action and be comfortable in an ever changing or ambiguous environment
Preferred Skills:
- Advanced credential from the Scrum Alliance, Scrum Inc, Scrum.org, or ICAgile
- Tech savvy, experience with project and collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, Miro and Office 365.
- Be “The Ideal Team Member” – Hungry, Humble, and Smart.
- Encourage an experimental and fail-fast and learning mindset.
- Experience working with teams applying DevSecOps capabilities to achieve delivery speed and operational stability.
- Experience in a scaled frameworks especially but not limited to Scrum @ Scale.
- Work with teams from a variety of technical domains, including but not limited to warehouse management systems, ERPs, financial systems and data-warehouses.
