Essential Functions of the School-Based Counselor:
- To spend 90% of their time providing billable services within the school setting- including counseling services, collateral contacts, and administrative work.
- To spend half of their time worked providing direct services to students and/or their family members and successfully engaging them in the treatment process.
- To meet regularly with their assigned supervisor to review their current caseload and discuss progress or regression, as per program guidelines.
- To attend and actively engage in team meetings and professional development opportunities as assigned.
- To complete and submit to the electronic health record all required clinical documentation in a professional manner and within the established program expectations and time-frames.
- To administer assigned clinical assessments to all students on their caseload and to complete their subsequent dictation according to established program time frames and protocols.
- To complete other assigned paperwork for the program and/or grant funding in a timely manner
Minimal Qualifications for the School-Based Counselor:
- A school-based therapist shall be a mature individual with sound judgment and serve as an appropriate role model to staff, youth, and families.
- They must possess at least a master's degree in a counseling or related human services discipline.
- Some schools require school-based therapists to be license-eligible.
- They should be a mature and dependable person with sound judgment and serve as an appropriate role model to youth and families.
- They must be an individual who has never been convicted of any child abuse offenses and have clear criminal, child abuse, FBI and National Sex Offender clearances. They must receive a passing score on the annual motor vehicle clearance.
- At times, the position requires being able to walk and climb flights of stairs.
- The candidate must have the ability to work in a loud or distracting environment.
Preferred Qualification of the School-Based Counselor
- An individual with a license or someone who is license-eligible in counseling or clinical social work.
- At least 2 years of experience in a therapeutic/ school setting providing clinical services to youth and families is preferred.
- Proficient in computer knowledge & skills (i.e. Google Suite).
Physical Requirements for the Clinical Counselor
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing. X Constantly
- Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds. X Occasionally
- Medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds. X Occasionally
