Melmark is a nonprofit organization providing clinically-sophisticated evidence-based special education, residential, vocational, and therapeutic services for children and adults diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders, developmental and intellectual disabilities, acquired brain injuries, medical complexities, and other neurological and genetic disorders.
School Nurse Overview
The Adult Day/School Nurse is responsible for assessing, implementing and evaluating the delivery of health care and health maintenance for clients served in the Melmark Adult Day program and the Melmark School. The Adult Day/School Nurse works closely with the Adult Day Program Directors, Education Administrators, Workshop Aides, Teachers, Teacher Aides, Residential Staff and other Melmark staff for comprehensive health care delivery during day program and school hours.
Schedule and Salary Information
- Monday- Friday 7am-3:30pm
- Starting Rate: $40.00/hour (+) based on years of experience
Requirements
- Must possess a Bachelors of Science in Nursing.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse, through the Pennsylvania Board of Nurse Examiners
- A valid US state drivers license and a minimum age of 21 years old. Must be capable of attaining approved Melmark driver status.
- A minimum of one (1) year experience in a related field. Prior work experience with aging adults and adults with functional impairment.
School Nurse Responsibilities
- Case management includes interfacing with outside agencies, attending client meetings including IPP’s, ISP’s, IEPs and client reviews, assisting with the admission and discharge of clients, maintain updated lifetime medical histories, outreach to families and agencies as needed for coordination of care during adult day/school hours of programming administering medications as needed including tube medications through g-tube and j-tube ports, completing nursing assessments for illness or other medical issues, clinical and programmatic goals.
- Maintains a knowledge of medical insurance and reimbursement mechanisms as related to client pharmacy, physician and durable medical equipment needs, administration of treatments and oversight of feeding bags and pumps and the ability to intervene quickly in case of an emergency.
- Supervises Medication Certified staff assisting with administration of medication and related responsibilities in 2380 programs.
- Participates in on-call Clinical rotation.
- Monitors the health and well-being of adult day clients and Melmark students.
- Works closely with Primary and Staff nurses on site to provide comprehensive care. Responds immediately to Codes and medical emergencies with appropriate equipment.
- Maintains responsibility for coordination of Melmark’s consulting physicians relative to the needs of Melmark clients. Provides client healthcare assessments as appropriate.
