About the Job
ASSIGNMENT: Candidate will work collaboratively with school staff, other agency personnel
and parents to develop and help implement programs to ensure the success of students in the
school community. Assess students and document eligibility for special education services and
placement.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Current Washington Education Staff Associate (School Psychologist) certificate is required
and must be on file prior to beginning work.
2. Major in school psychology
3. Master’s degree
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Proficiency in second language
2. Ability to exhibit multicultural and ethnic understanding and sensitivity with the ability to
communicate effectively with all cultural groups in the school community
3. Experience working with a diverse student population and the specific school
demographics
4. Understanding of or willingness to learn Washington State regulations governing
education of students with disabilities
5. Knowledge of child development and behavior
6. Knowledge of current approaches to teaching and educational interventions
7. Knowledge of behavioral interventions
8. Ability to build rapport and work with student, staff and parents
9. Desired characteristics are: flexibility; ability to organize ideas, time and materials to
accomplish goals; enthusiasm; ability to express ideas clearly and understand concepts
being discussed; ability to learn new ideas and skills; ability and willingness to develop
favorable relationships with students; and willingness to model behavior deemed
appropriate by the school district and the community.
