Job Description: We are seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher, you will provide essential life skills training, literacy development, and academic instruction to students with special needs. You will employ effective teaching methodologies and best practices to enhance sensory, perceptual motor skills, language, cognition, and memory development. This role involves modifying the general education curriculum using various instructional techniques and technologies to meet the unique needs of each student. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with parents, administrators, and other professionals to create individualized educational plans that foster educational, physical, and social growth.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver differentiated instruction tailored to the individual needs of students with special needs.
- Implement strategies such as behavior modification and positive reinforcement to teach socially acceptable behavior.
- Adapt the approved curriculum to meet the specific needs of special-needs students.
- Conduct meetings with parents/guardians to discuss student progress and educational priorities.
- Support students' emotional and social development to promote positive self-image and understanding of others.
- Establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects, communicating these goals effectively to students.
- Maintain a positive classroom environment using preventive discipline methods.
- Collaborate with school staff to fulfill job responsibilities and support student success.
- Complete required written reports and administrative tasks related to student progress and development.
- Demonstrate adherence to the Imagine Schools Six Measures of Excellence in all aspects of job performance.
- Model positive character virtues and encourage the development of strong moral and performance character attributes among students.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field.
- Licenses & Certifications: Valid state certification and endorsement in Special Education.
- Experience: 1-2 years of successful teaching experience, preferably in special education.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to special education and understanding of student learning styles.
- Capacity to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations.
- Ability to engage cooperatively with colleagues, students, and parents/guardians.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with the ability to obtain a substitute license from the Ohio Department of Education.
