HJF is seeking a Scientific Advisor to work in an interdisciplinary environment with a focus on the development and application of computational solutions to biomedical problems. The Scientific Advisor will provide management and analysis expertise across the research portfolio.
This position will be in support of the Biotechnology High-Performance Computing Software Applications Institute (BHSAI). The mission of the BHSAI is to perform interdisciplinary research, combining physical, computational, and life-science research, to improve the efficiency and efficacy in the development of militarily relevant medical products for Force Health Protection.
The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.
Responsibilities:- Provide support for the executive level management, programmatic direction, and scientific expertise for a diverse research portfolio.
- Identify technical gaps in strategic plans, recommend technical and programmatic direction, and assist with shaping research programs to fill the knowledge gaps.
- Facilitate collaboration and partnerships that leverage expertise both within and outside the DoD and coordinate the decision-making process between all program participants.
- Prepare and present programmatic reviews of the Institute’s research program for review panels across the DoD.
- Prepare reports, briefings, and tasker responses, develop costs estimates, and project plans.
- Provide guidance to scientists preparing research proposals, manuscripts, and presentations, as needed.
- Provide advice on manpower utilization, work flow, and operational procedures to increase efficiency, productivity, and make overall improvements for the program.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Assigned Lead: May recommend the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, and starting salaries; provide input on employee performance evaluations.
Education and Experience
- Doctoral Degree or Medical Degree required.
- Minimum of 5+ years experience required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proven computational experience.
- In-depth knowledge of biomedical science and technology research procedures and practice both within and outside the DoD.
- Expertise managing biomedical science and technology research projects.
- Knowledge and experience with DoD grants, research contracts and agreements administration and management.
- Ability to work independently as well as to collaborate in team/interagency environments.
- Ability to be flexible with changing priorities and available to interact with employees, clients and sponsors of all levels.
- Ability to develop strong, trusting relationships in order to gain support and achieve results.
- Ability to coordinate many complex systems and programs at the same time.
- Ability to use sound judgment in solving problems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.
Work Environment
- This position will take place primarily in an office setting.
Compensation
- The annual salary range for this position is $88,600-$135,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
