Salary Range:$120,000 - $160,000 per annum

Scope of Job
Job Summary:
This Scientist I/II position will drive research and carry out experiments in support of efforts to measure compounds in breath and other biological materials. This is a hands-on position that offers opportunities for innovation of experimental techniques. The position is to be based in our San Francisco Bay Area R&D laboratory.
Essential Functions
To include, but are not limited to the following:
- Develop, optimize and validate analytical methods primarily using Thermo Scientific Q-Exactive and Exploris mass spectrometers using LC-MS and other types of mass spectrometric methods to identify and quantify metabolic compounds and exogenous compounds (including carcinogens and toxins).
- Create laboratory developed tests (LDTs) to be implemented in a CLIA environment.
- Design, implement bench-scale experiments with multiple variables for small molecule compounds.
- Be a champion for data quality making judgment calls on qualitative and quantitative validity of analytical data and drive the directions of research projects towards definite conclusions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other R&D teams and successfully communicate with people who have little or no knowledge of mass spectrometry and metabolomics.
- Maintain meticulous experimental records.
- Mentor junior team members.
- Voice ideas, concerns, and solutions as an active team member.
- Being able to work in an environment which comes with shifting priorities.
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES
To include, but are not limited to the following:
Ph.D. degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related fields.
For Scientist II, 3+ years of postdoctoral hands-on laboratory (academic and/or industrial) experience developing analytical methods for small molecule analysis (LC, MS, GC). For Scientist I, 0-3 years postdoctoral experience.
Ability to be a fully independent user of LC-MS and knowledge of instrumentation hardware and software.
Proficiency in Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) is a plus.
Experience using the Thermo Scientific Q-exactive platform is essential, including data analysis using both Thermo software and open-source software.
Proficiency in untargeted and targeted metabolomics and lipidomics data processing, statistical analysis and data interpretation is essential.
Proficiency using Python based analysis tools is desirable.
Strong problem-solving skills and proven creativity.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a diverse and dynamic team.
Start-up company experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements: standing, sitting, walking, stairs, light lifting, computer operation.
